Is it cheaper to buy Rolex in Europe?
My wife went to Europe a couple years back. I visited the Rolex headquarter in Switzerland and bought her watch from them directly.
Rolex charged her taxes but when she got to the airport to fly home, they returned the taxes. She then visited Rolex stores back in the US to check the price, and they charge US$2000 more for the same watch. sounds like a good deal? |

Sounds good to me, if you're going to Europe anyway.

I do not know about US prices, but compared to prices in Middle East, South East asia prices in UK were the cheapest, particularly if you can reclaim VAT. Depending on models a decent discount may be possible!.

I was wondering the same thing, I'm going to be in Europe including Switzerland next month and am going to check it out.
I heard though several folks that Swiss watches including Rolex's are more expensive in Europe ??? |

I was there last in April 2010 and prices were higher in Europe than in the US.

I don't think there is too much difference. Obviously if certain individals are tax/vat exempt or can claim this back, then there's the significant cost difference.

The difference is you can claim the tax back if your from a non eu country. For example I bought my new GMTIIc from my AD in Aberdeen and as I'm a resident of Kuwait I claimed my vat back so I actually paid the equivalent of $6200 for it

I live in Europe and for me Rolex is a lot cheaper in the States via USD. If I buy here new or used I'm going to pay 19% VAT. If I buy in the U.S., I get to take advantage of the EUR => USD exchange rate and I get to avoid paying tax. I usually bring one home on my wrist when I'm traveling stateside.

The tax issue is a big one. If you are in London Heathrow, Watches of Switzerland sell all watches VAT free, to all buyers. Their range is limited, however.
Currency fluctuations can also play a role, so that the current travails of the EUR and GBP could play in favour of US/CAD/AUS buyers. Best to keep an eye on currency moves and act fast before Rolex's pricing changes to reflect same. |
