No more discounts?????
Just popped into Sydney hour glass and spoke with a salesman. He just said to me, they received word from rolex? that there will be no more discounts on ss models in all rolex models???? I was shocked... He said I was lucky to pick my gmt up for a good price. Anyone else here about this

Why bother with ADs in Australia, they are just hopeless in customer service. TRF sellers are the best!

It was my understanding that Rolex has always disapproved of any discount on their products and that they don't officially approve of AD's giving discount.
I think it's always been the case that if an AD does give discount that's between them and you but that Rolex doesn't and never has sanctioned it...

With the Australian Dollar so strong, it is worth looking at the UK for a new Rolex.

Now I think of it, I have never been in a AD in Australia. Every where else in the world, but I have never had the desire to in my home town.
The Rolex watches I have purchased have all been bought outside Australia, for one reason only. I have saved big $. I'd take that comment with a very big grain of salt... |

Just take whatever the Aus AD salesperson said as a joke. I doubt few from Australia who are on TRF would buy from an Australia AD knowingly getting ripped a new one.

ADs are like lawyers, there are good ones and bad ones. Just consider the source when taking info. How much do you trust YOURAD?

Every time I walk into an AD I hear two things guaranteed.
1. Prices are going up [insert month here] 2. No matter which watch I am looking at a female salesperson will say, "my boyfriend has the exact same watch I love it, it's my favorite watch."

In that situation my typical response would be "that's okay I know other AD's who will."

But if it is a salesperson, they are just messengers of the management. If the boss says no discount, that is what they will tell you. They may not have a lot of control.

If Rolex were serious about not giving discounts they should get their AD's to sign a contract and if they are caught selling for less than MSRP they loose the Rolex line.
I recently asked for a discount on some Pandora jewelry for my wife and the AD told me they weren't allowed to discount and had to sign a contract agreeing not to do it. I thought.... that's fair....same price everywhere. |

Price fixing, which is illegal, is when a group of manufacturers, who are supposed to be in competition with one another, join together to set a price and stifle competition.. Anybody is free to purchase a cheaper watch from any number of manufacturers....... As long as Rolex continues with the idea that their luxury product should/must command a luxury price; all of our interests and the value of all our watches will benefit.....

I remembered my AD here said something along the line that Rolex is trying to mimic the Louis Vuitton practise; less number of ADs and no discounts. He did acknowledge that it would be hard for the AD to do that knowing how strong the AUD dollar is. So at least at my AD, he's still willing to provide discount for the SS model (7-10%). Still not good enough though...

I am not sure how Rolex would control this no discount policy. My AD told me mont blanc would not allow them to sell there product should they discount. That sounded like to me.

Just like all buyers are starting to see that AD's are not discounting and if they are its very little so to are all 2nd hand and grey dealers. The supply of cheap watches has gone and dealers cannot replace them at even what they sold for a few months ago on desirable models. I can tell you the forum selling prices on almost all occasions is the same or even cheaper than what dealers sell for and buy at watch shows. The best deals are right in the sales section. Don't take my word for it go to any watch show and see what watches are trading hands for amongst dealers and compare to the forum.

I'm in Sydney too and AD prices in here is just absolutely BS and rediculous, how can they have SubC RRP for $9645 and no discount, after having my Coke GMT2 for over 12 years, I've been very itchy to get either a SubC or wait for the new EXP2, but just plain too expensive these days, more than double the price of my GMT2, this is horrible ...
