inner clasp pitting on Sub's 93150
I've searched all over trying to see if this is just typical wear and tear, but I've come up with nothing..
My new-to-me K 14060M is in excellent condition, minus some pitting/corrosion at the points shown in the attached pic. It's strange, this isn't the exposed portion of the clasp fold. It still looks and feels solid at this joint, but is obviously degraded. I don't even see this on 40 year old steel, so I'm just really curious about my 10 year old bracelet. Has anybody seen this before? Maybe the consequences of 24 hour wear? Should I leave it alone, or try to polish it down? Not concerned with the aesthetics really, just longevity. cheers! |

the culprit
could be your sweat. Try to clean your watch a little more often.

Sweat or soap build up if you shower with it and don't rinse it well.

As I started my post with, I just bought the watch last month... but point/opinion taken.
it's already regularly being washed and rinsed. Must've been glued to the previous owners wrist... |

Maybe something was spilled on the bracelet at some point? It's hard to tell with the flash/light causing some wash-out in the photograph.

Yeah, the harsh lighting makes it out as quite a bit nastier than it is. It's just something I've noticed and have never seen discussed. It's the part of the clasp that folds in on itself, so the soap/sweat build-up probably makes the most sense. It's not a removable layer and has the texture of having been sand-blasted.

I had that with my daily wear Sub (since sold) Fine grit and sand used to get lodged in there and it made the pit marks.
On old watches sweat staining would leave black pit marks and tarnish the steel, not a problem on newer more advanced stainless steel.
