The "new' ss GMT ~ My verdict.

After "Hell month" in which we ended 1 short of our record for the most cardiac cases in one month,I had some much needed freedom today.How better to relieve the stress than go and check out some nice watches ??

Went to two ADs.Saw the new ss GMT.At the first one the owner wore one and at the second one they had one ,but was sold.Both getting new stock very soon.Availabillitty,no problem.

Had avery good look at the watch.The highlight of the show is the bracelet.Here I will give Rolex credit for a real improvement.The solid links,is an obvious improvement.The polished links is where the sparkle lies in this design.Its very nice.I like it.If it scratches,screw that... polish it out!! The clasp is excellent.Great design and a real improvement.The casing is larger,but fits well.I dont have a problem with the weight,at all.The concerns regarding the relative size of the casing and the bracelet is unfounded.Its looks right.The non reflective cyclops is great.The maxi dial and larger hands suits this design,it incorporated well with the HUGE Arabics on the bezel.The face as a whole works well.A balanced design.The green hand,although not the best choice of colour,is not intrusive and does not standout to much.The crown is an improvement,no question.The ceramic bezel ~a bit of much ado about nothing,in my opinion.The milky white of the numbering looks a bit dead,as does the whole face.A bit "too white" and to little Sparkle from the WG parts,which is overshadowed by "the show of white on black predominance".Thats the parts,but as a whole it works.Its a very nice watch and needs very serious consideration

Saw the TT version,again today ....... Sorry ... Not my favourite.Both the ADs said they prefer the ss version also.Both had the tt in the window,but was waiting on stock,for the ss.Perhaps thats also an indicator.

Also had a look at some ladies models,saw a DJ tt with Jubilee gold dial and diamond markers .Very nice Then ,also saw a ss/WG fluted bezel,with white MOP and diamond markers.The ladies reading this MUST have a look at this one,its a beauty !!!

Also had a look at IWC.Very nice !! No question,high quality stuff.

Then had a look at some Panerais ... A 113,176,210,50,120.Many names on the waiting list,BUT they do give a discount !!They are big,bold and very nice in their own way,very comfy on the wrist,however,at this stage .... Rolex is still the King for me.

Have seen many watches today ,but still the Blue TT Sub remains one of the finest,if not the finest,design around.

Be nice to be able to do the side by side comparison of both the TT Blue Sub and the new SS GMT and TT GMT.

If the TT Blue Sub ever comes out with an improved style Daytona clasp, then would that make it the king of the hill?

It seems that people rhapsodise over the TT Blue Sub, even in comparison to the gold ingot GMT. I wonder why that is?

Have done the side by side,between the Blue TT Sub,ss GMT II,tt Gmt II and the SD.The Blue TT Sub is the winner.No question.Scarce to find at the ADs too .. yet have seen the tt anniv GMT II,now at three ADs in the window display.The ss GMT,they got in,they sold very quickly.
Would I trade my SD on the new ss GMT ...... NO !!! If I had to buy a black dialed ss sports,would I consider the GMT II ? ... Absolutely !! It is a nice watch

Interesting. I have a Sea Dweller, and the cognoscentti seem to pass it by oftentimes, finding it perhaps too bland? I'm curious as to why you wouldn't trade your SD for a new SS GMT, given that the value of the SS GMT is much more (at least in Canada) than a SD, and more exclusive, better bracelet, etc etc etc.

I should add I'm quite keen on my SD; the right amount of brawn (size, weight, crystal thickness, etc) and beauty (black enamel dial, clean-cut date window, nicely polished coin edge of bezel, more so than other sports models owing the the size-thickness of the bezel).

The question you asked in the first paragraph,you answered for me in the second paragraph ... I agree 100% I would just ad that the crystal that sits a bit higher over the bezel also has a nice shine on the edge,in the right lighting conditions.

i've seen and touch steve's new ss gmt II for the first time last night at a little gathering here in melbourne. definitely a stunning watch..
i'm yet to see the tt in person. but the ss is seriously good looking...
and the clasp is AMAZING...!! better than any other i have seen on rolexes....certainly better than my yacht master clasp.

For me its a design,where some of the parts,are less than ideal,but as a whole,it works very nicely.Quite an atractive design overall.I like it I think the whole bracelet is excellent and the polished parts adding quite a bit of "spark",remaining stylish,without going into the "too much bling" category.

Whats not to like about this?! Best looking dial I have seen. I guess we are all entitled to our opinions, the TT Blue does not do it for me, too bling and presidential (the Presidential colors) for myself or would go with the clothes I wear since I am always more casual, but looks great on others and some of the pics on this forum are really great looking. The Black and God Sub is also a favorite of mine. Blue Bull, it seems from several of your post that you almost have a personal vendetta against the TT GMT, always slamming it?

True,personally I dont like the tt GMT II.Giving an honest opinion is what this forum is about.I also try and convey the reasons why I dont like it,otherwise it would be just an opinion hanging in the air and meaning nothing.I know I'll step on some toes,in the process and may even offend some owners in the process.This is however a very credible forum ,in my opinion and thats why I need to express my honest opinion.Just remember,it nothing personal against any member,it just an expression of my own opinion regarding the watch.

Taste differs and we all have our own likings and dislikes.Diversity is what makes life interesting.

Just my opinion.

I have had a think about these different Rolex models and have looked closely at my TT blue Sub, TT GMT II, SD and SS Sub ( haven't got a TT Sub). I think the TT GMT II's new features and bracelet do make it the best mainstream Rolex style to date. Until now i felt that my Daytona and DD had the best bracelets but not anymore. I do like my TT blue Sub and as a bling watch it is impressive but in comparison is now let down by the bracelet.
I had a choice between the SS GMT II and the TT GMT II and chose the TT because I do have a pepsi GMT and didn't need another stainless model.
I have given my TT blue Sub to my son and will buy another when it has the same style bracelet and (blue) ceramic bezel as the TT GMT II - then it will be back in a class of its own.
One last point, I had some meetings today and wore the TT GMT, I felt more relaxed with it (I 'forgot' I was wearing it) than if I had been wearing the TT Sub. - go figure that out?

Agreed, out of the newer GMTs, the TT is my favorite too. I might be biased since that and the YG were the only ones that I have seen in person but the TT looked very sharp. It felt very nice on my wrist, the ceramic bezel turns with precision and the whole watch just felt so solid. I had it side by side with a TT Sub and was just blown away at all the improvements the GMT featured.

Some people may disagree with me but I think that the new TT GMT II is THE Rolex to buy right now in my opinion.

I have a 116710 on the way, bought yesterday over the phone.
It has the new movement, new anti-magnetic mainspring, ceramic bezel which will not scratch, new improved bracelet/clasp, triplock and re-designed case, etc. what's not to like? =) maverick

Rolex has a winner on their hands with the new SS GMT I think it's the best looking in SS Rolex sport watches right now. The Omega Planet Ocean looks pretty good but the new GMT even looks better, I really like the glass-like bezel, maxi-dial, clasp, bracelet....

Btw, the color of bezel is not really black, it's glass like pewter.

I did the side by side comparison and, to me, the TT GMT won hands down (sorry JJ). I had almost been convinced to buy the blue subby, but the GMT blew me away.

I am looking for a dressier watch, and I may not be able to hold out much longer. Of course, those JLC Master series watches look mighty inviting too.

I have to agree with you, the TT Blue Dial Sub, is possibly the most beautiful watch ever produced by Rolex... imagine it with the new bracelet and clasp (like the Daytona)... it will be a HUGE winner.

Anyhow, as for the new SS GMT... I am getting mine next week and is truly excited about the prospect, I think it is such a "great step" in the right direction from Rolex... a pure bred and updated sports watch... love the look, love the weight and great NEW technology
