Vintage Longines Chrono ....

Incidently met this "weird" looking watch but find it quite interesting though. It is a vintage longines chrono from 1968 with the model no. 8225/1. Sometimes, people called it Nonius.

It has a real big case of 42mm without crown and come with 22mm wide strap. The case should never been polished but has some natural wear according to its age.

The watch is powered by Longines' 538 movement. Though I am not able to find details of this movement, some buddies said it is the basic model of the Longines' movement 30CH. Longines' chrono stopped using this movement and started to use valjoux in their chrono in 70's.

Unlike other chrono that commonly come with either 2 or 3 sub-dials, the dial of Longines' chrono is "weird" in a way because it only come with a single sub-dial which makes the layout of dial very imbalance.

The most interesting part I find about this watch is the yellow second counting hand which has the vernier gauge which enable counting 1/10 of a second.

Here are some wrist shots.

Thanks for looking.

Wow, interesting - not something you see that often.

Definitely got a bit of 70's retro style about it.

It looks much better in the pic on your wrist than off.

Neat - love the retro 70s look. Certainly has much more style and feel to it than modern Longines. Was once a great brand!

Excellent. And well photographed.

What does the name "Nonius" refer to?

I think that Nonius is the scale attached on chronograph second hand.

That watch is really beautiful, very unusual. I had an opportunity to buy very similar model some years ago, unfortunately I didn`t...but it was a model with Valjoux 72 movement inside and also with a Nonius scale...

Congrats on a great purchase!

That's a stunner. Love vintage chronos and divers.

That's a Vernier scale, as far as I know...
