Some mods look great, however, why do Rolex owners have a tedency of always modifying their watches?? Example, brushed PCL's, PVD that the watch can not be returned back to it's original state.

Some mods like changing bezel, straps / bracelets, clear case back covers seem to be ok.

However, you do not see any Patek, JLC or any other high end watches modified as much as you Rolex watches.

Just a thought, however, your ideas are very much appreciated.

I wear my Rolex with Zulu strap because I feel much more comfortable that way, plus the PCL on the new GMT's bracelet is scratch magnet.

It's a good question, I personally do not mod mine. However each to their own, I think NATO straps and other band changes are fine and clear case backs look hot, the rest is not my cup of tea. Regards

Perhaps I would put a NATO on a 14060 or 5512

My son's YM bezel resting on his LV. I guess you could hold it in place
with some blu-tack but it'd look like a Tag wouldn't it

A very, very, small, miniscule % of Rolex owners modify their Rolex watches. Most just buy them to tel the time.

This % increases greatly among our 60K Forum members as they strive for the perfect Rolex?

You gotta look at what Seiko owners do to their watches. I've also seen quite a few modded Omegas.

the rolex watch owners do not do as much modifications as you think. i see more modifications in other brand owners than rolex actually.

Well first if Rolex especially Rolex USA were not so dictatorial with what you can do to your own bought and paid for watch.Then IMHO there would be quite a few more customisations not talking about PVD as myself hate that on Rolex.But as long as you use genuine Rolex parts you should be able to customise the watch to your own taste.Now if said customisation does not interfere with the running and normal service of the watch just cannot see what the problem is.Only the fact that Rolex would want you to spend a lot more money on say a gold model that does have the dial you want etc but not available in SS.

it's all a matter of personal taste really, like with cars, you can spend a fortune modifying it, it's only an issue when you want to sell, as you have to find someone with exactly the same taste as you. For me, apart from popping on a different band, I keep my collection original as possible

Not that unusual as this happens with cell phones, cars, houses, bikes back in the day, and all other sorts of items people own.

It's all in the effort to make something we own unique to our taste and liking.

When you have a mass manufacturer like Rolex who uses interchangeable parts - by and large - you will have mods because they are easier to perform.

My first response it, "why not?" It's a watch and you own it, do whatever you want.

As far as not seeing the same on Patek, etc., I would say that in a year, I probably don't see any of those brands except is store windows.

I haven't seen any watch modifications that appeal to me, but when I do-- I'm buying some. Besides, it's easier to unload a customized watch than remove a tattoo.

The same reason people mod cars. Too make it their own. Give it whatever it is they feel is missing. To make it different and unique.
