Why does it have to "mean" anything?!? Why can't people just buy the watch the "love"?
TT look nice...forget about "success" or "confirming richness". |

He 'could' have bought a gold Rolex...would that confirm he is rich?? Because he isn't. It's all about personal choice my man! You 'think' too much |

Funny but I always thought of SS as entry level Rolex for people who wanted the prestige without the price of TT or SG!

I wish TT was even more unwanted, so I could get them cheaper. I prefer the TT over any other configuration, so that's what I buy.

In a prior (non-quoted) part of my post I expressed that, to me, right now, they don't suit me to wear. I think a many of the TT's are gorgeous -- I have complimented one of my dentists on his TT Sub and one of my partners on his TT DJ. But, for me, don't like them and haven't for about 10 yrs because I quit yellow gold. Although -- I flirted with several Bluesies over the last year. But, about this quote... I would not dare say that every TT or DJ or TT DJ wearer is non-WIS. Obviously, if you're here, you've been bitten by the bug. Rather, what I'm saying is that among the non-WIS crowd, it seems they end up wearing TT DJ's -- in *my* personal/professional experience. The partner I work with is an example. His wife got him his watch as a gift -- and between her preference and what the sales person at the AD directed her to -- she ended up with a TT DJ oyster stick-dial. Among the folks I meet who don't know much about their watch and just picked from what was in the case, or were given it as a gift, TT DJ's seem to be the most common pick. And the particular partner I know, he's clueless until I tell him that a guy sitting across from us at a meeting had on his exact model reference, just with a different band, or dial, or bezel. He doesn't "get into" the WIS stuff. So, I have found over time that someone sporting a TT is someone who is quite hit-or-miss when it comes to trying to strike up any conversation about their piece. Because many of them just don't get into the watches like some of us do. That's all. It was a tangential statement, so I probably shouldn't have bothered digressing on the topic. Regardless, I hope I've clarified myself, and I hope anyone who took offense that I was either (a) dissing their always-beautiful time pieces or (b) their appreciation thereof, I offer apologies. /bye |

The TT Submariner (particularly the blue face) and the TT GMTIIC are brilliant looking watches. I'd say these two models are quite desirable on the secondary market. In fact generally the TT look has become iconic to the Rolex brand image.

2 years ago I bought a TT rose gold datejust with a jubilee bracelet. The dealer's shop was next to my favorite Dim Sum restaurant, and every time I had my Chinese fix, I went next door to see the watches. It kept calling, and after a few months, I bought it, and am totally happy with it.
That being said, this watch is close to my bling limit. It is totally subjective what those limits are; a 40 mm would exceed mine. |

I'd like a tt black subC but I figure it would not get as much wear as my ss models since it would look funny at work and with casual wear.I still think it looks beautiful though and if funds allowed I would definitely love one for smarter occasions

Alot of people do tend to associate the TT jubilee datejust with rolex. it has become somewhat of a symbol.

Honestly my skin tone clashes with gold. So solid gold and TT are out for me. SS works better. Can I afford solid gold yes but does it look good on me no. I guess there are others that have the same problems.

I love my TT and purchased it (here in Canada where wages are lower than US, we pay much higher prices for everything than in the States, and hugh taxes that Americans are not subjected to), not because I could not afford the all gold, but because I love the contrast between the steel and rose gold.
I also understand that the stretching problem is much less a problem with the Oyster band than with the jubilee. The problem has also been addressed with the recent addition of stronger bands with solid gold. Many high end watches like Glashutte, A. Lange and Sohne and Patek Philippe have leather bands I think in part to avoid the "over the top" look that is sometimes apparent in an all gold watch ! |

Don't worry we all say things and they dont come out the same way we thought about them. I was a little put off by your comments however I knew you didn't mean anything hurtful by them. Anyways the 80's was a great time for movies, music, and decadence. I love that decade and wish I was old enough to have experienced it as an adult. I have friends who have made millions during the 80's and still talk about how great that decade was.

I'm 27 and purchased a 116613 a few weeks back and im loving it! It's my everyday watch since I don't wear my DDII Ever Rose everyday...yes I can afford a solid gold watch hehe....i think the TT is great and if you buy from one of the Trusted sellers here on the forum you should get a good deal. For me the TT combo give me the ability to wear the watch with a tee shirt and throw on a button down and look classy. It's more versatile to me than SS. To each their own

I think the TT oyster bracelet is uniquely Rolex, it's a classic and sharp. I think there will be a strong vintage market for these pieces in a decade or two now that super-cases and pregnant lugs are taking over.
Does my blue-sub look like an 80's throw back? perhaps but the 80's weren't all bad either and my 16613 ain't going nowhere!! LOL

The same could be said about anyone who buys a watch for more than a few hundred dollars, i.e. all Rolex owners.

It is a personal preference, solution is multiple watches for different occasions.
