Upgrading 18038/18238 to 118238?

Owners of 18038/18238 have you even thought of or gone on to upgrade to a pre-owned 118238 with the SCL and new clasp?

Would you?

Why? Why not?

Would you rather get a different solid YG such as a full YG GMT or Sub rather than upgrading from a 18038/18238 to a 118238?

My friends who are not *WIS*, cannot even differentiate an 18038/18238 or 118238. They only notice that it is a 18K YG DD. These friends also wear Rolex Datejusts and other Rolex SS. However it will be a different story if they also have DDs.

Personally, if you really like wearing the DD everyday, I will suggest upgrading to 118238 as you wont stretch the band as fast as the older ones. Otherwise, I will keep the older YG DD and buy a WG DD or a sports model in whatever color of 18K.

IMO, the upgrade you're suggesting will be expensive and not all that useful. For the money you could be talking, you may be able to buy another Rolex.

I like the improvements, but they are so subtle that they aren't worth the effort or $'s. I'm assuming your older watch hasn't been abused and bracelet hasn't been trashed. My experience is that wear and tear on older style bracelets is still a very slow process, even on daily wearers. It might almost be comparable $'s to swap your watch for a newer, used model.

I just made the upgrade because someone paid me good money for my mint X serial 18238 and I got a great price on a mint Z serial 118238, it even has the engraving.

I sorta fit this category. I have a single quick 18078

And made a big jump up 118235 meteorite diamonds, because I liked the heavier solid links

I'd say if you get a reasonable deal preowned you can't go wrong.

I STill have my older one though as im tryingto sell

I love mine but as time goes by the idea of HCL and old clasp grew in my mind leading me to feel a little bad for myself not having an actual SOLID 18k YG DD Its just an idea for now anyway, I don't want to get too emotional about it and make reckless decision for no good reason.

I would keep my YG DD and just use the dough on a WG DD produced in my birth year =)

Yep rose is far less common and in my opinion less flashy than yellow.

If the goal is to wear a DD that goes under the radar get a WG.

There will always be "new and improved" Rolex coming down the pike. I wouldn't spend the kind of money that is probably going to be involved in this upgrade. This is a great time (gold at $1700) to get skinned on a trade for gold.
