I'll take the sub every day...I simply love the gold text, gold hour markers and hands and particularly the gold coloured date background...

The dial is also very nice...while I also much prefer the brushed lugs. I wouldn't trade if it was me but it's your decision. good luck ...

Owned both, difficult choice.
Voted for the Sub (as a member off the SUB-CLUB)

I was in the same dilema 3 years back, chose my 16613. Preferred the 16613 as it has a better clasp than 16622. :)

Excuse my ignorance but what's the difference?

& personally I think the YM 'dresses up' better than the blue of the Sub'.

(IMPO a black TT Sub' dresses up better than blue.... )

Yachtie all the way! Not a big fan of Two Tone watches at all.

"Trading up"???? If you feel like you're trading "up", then it sounds like you may have already have made your mind up.

Very different looks, I like them both and would own both, but I would also want to hold to a nice blusy (16613).

PS: So what exactly does the trade include???? (as that might make the decision an easier one).

I understand the Tag comparison, I've seen that particular Aquaracer you are talking about. But then again, there is also a two tone Tag with blue dial that was popular in the 80's and 90's...so in the end I think it's all about what makes you smile I love the YM but was also considering flipping it for a GMT IIc but I suddenly remembered that the YM was a grail of mine a long time ago, and all of a sudden here I am considering flipping it. So I'm keeping it for the moment.

I think after seeing your TT Sub I'll be getting one as my next purchase (either that or the GMT IIc)...

The YM is more understated. Monochrome and it reminds me of some Tag Heuer models. When I showed it to my sister she said it looks like a Tag. Then again, had the YM been commercialized like the other Rolex models, we'd probably be saying that the Tag's look like YM's, much like the how the Tag Aquaracer 300 looks like a Sub.

Trading up because the 16613 is a 98 model Sub, while the YM is current, so I'd need to add cash for the trade. This is one of the things holding me back as well.

Seems like the YM guys are making themselves heard! The poll isn't as lopsided anymore. Seeing their numbers creep up in a subtle manner.

My mind is 70% made up to keep the sub.

Main reason why I'm thinking of the YM is because it's got subtlety that the 16613 doesn't have, but then again, it's not like I don't have other watches that fit the bill if I need something a little more understated.

But, if somebody were to offer me a straight trade, with no cash on my part, then I'm back to 50/50 lol

I had both - 2004 no hole 16613 and 2009 Yachtmaster, and last week I sold the 16613. The reason is, the bluesy is too bling bling for me, and the yachtmaster feels bigger on my wrist. I didn't weigh the Subs, but the Yacht has about 160g which is very nice. I also like the platinum dial and bezel together with SS band, it makes really nice combination with the red second hand. Plastic maxi dial is fantastic, case is beautiful, I don't know better summer watch. The ONLY thing, which I don't like, is the old small clasp. But you can replace it with new DJII clasp, which fits perfectly, and costs about 500EUR...

Reading some complaints on the YM clasp. What exactly is wrong with it?

I recently picked up a 16613 after deliberating my next watch purchase for a very long time. I've seen any number of YMs on friends' wrists, and while I like them they never sing to me the way the 16613 blue dial has since seeing my first example in the 80s. I fought it for ~ 20 years, but finally succumbed to the siren:

It's been 2 months now and I'm still smitten.

I personally do not find the YM to be understated at all, but its probably because (like a lot of us) I zero in on watches in most relaxed social environments and can pick a YM out from across the room. The polished center links and bezel numbers are flashy in indoor light and its announcement of substance and quality is pure Rolex. I would think that the YM would possibly be more versatile when choosing an outfit in the morning, but in the end it (obviously) comes down to personal preference.

In the end since you cannot really go wrong here I wish you good luck whatever the ultimate choice.

which should be to go home with who ya brung and keep the 16613 lol

Hi CMT,

I got my sub more or less the same way. I started out with Tags as a teen, then I moved up to a quartz Seamaster. When I graduated, I wanted a Sub but my parent's fave watch guy dissuaded me from the Rolex, instead pointing me to Breguet.

Many watch purchases later, I find myself going back to the sub, seeing prices skyrocket out of reach until just recently, I chanced upon this one, which was pretty beat-up but was priced well.

So I got it, had it fixed and voila! Good as new!

Blue TT Sub really is quite flashy tho. I mean the gold, the colors really grab your attention. They make you take notice. But, again, I'm gonna stop pressuring myself with the YM. Because if its understated I want, my Breguet type XX in titanium is plenty understated, while being versatile as well. And looking at the watch case, its nice to have something like the sub to add some color.

Thanks for the input, guys!

Regards,

lorsban

Great collection man! Mine is a similar story as I chose a Reverso over the 16613 the last time I went a' buyin' - That Breguet is an awesome piece and to be honest I'd have a hard time choosing the 16613 over it as well.

Thanks man! Actually I wasnt even planning on the 16613, just your basic sub date. Its what I could afford back then, but my mom really wanted me to get the Breguet and even said theyd cover the difference. Who am I to argue? I hadn't even heard of the brand till then but the guy made the watch sound so cool, titanium, carbon fiber dial, and Breguet were only making less than 5000 watches a year back then.

Both are great watches, but I would lean toward the Blusey between the two.

Actually, I have to update the pic since I have already sold the Breitling to my bother in law and I'm also planning on selling the Ball since I hardly use it these days.

Hopefully, I can add a JLC Master Control or GO Panomatic Date in a few years.

The JLC is an awesome watch which I can only dream of...

How much would the Ball go for? You could PM me if you plan to sell, I might be interested....

The Sub gets my vote. Get the watch serviced and polished. If after you see the shine you are not sure you want to keep it, then it was never the watch for you. There is nothing like a polished bluessy

Yeah, I did just that right after I got the watch and it came back perfect! Just take a look at the difference in my previous post. Originally, it was absolutely covered in scratches and there was this huge gouge on the upper left hand side of the glass as well as a scratch on the cyclops! Man, the original owner really really used this thing!
