Anyone Been to Punta Cana?
Ami and I are going to be spending 8 days in Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) next month.
It's our first trip to the Dominican, but we've been "down south" a few times before. So, here's the question -- anyone been and if so, what should we do and what should we avoid? Any off the beaten path restaurants that we must visit? How's the shopping? Any "upscale" jewelry stores? Also, did you fish? Ami is dying to go fishing! Thanks for any and all help/advice.

I work with a guy who went there recently. He loved it and said he'd go back. That's the best I can tell ya.
If you go have fun and take pics. dP

There are no bargains to be had except rum. You will not want to leave your resort unattended. Golfing is good. Fishing via charter boat will be good. Watch out for any kind of scams by employees at the resort. Keep your Rolex safely on your wrist.

What sort of scams are you talking about? I'm pretty well traveled, and I've never been approached about anything that could be considered a scam. Hell, most can't even speak much english, let alone scam someone.
I was considering wearing my Seiko Diver on a ZULU strap, but I went and got a NATO put on my GMT, so I think it'll be fine. Not too many people would be interested in stealing a watch on a strap, ya know.

Hi,
I was in Punta Cana a few years ago and it is a resort town. You can walk from hotel to hotel on the beach. There is really no town just resorts. The water is warm and blue. Now if you want to visit a resort with city flare you have to go to Puerto Plata. This is the Atlantic ocean side of the Island. Give a few $5.00 tips and you will be treated like a king.Good luck and enjoy. |
