Rolex on a Nato strap

I'm thinking of trying this out, and I have some questions:

Do the straps tend to really scratch the caseback?

Also, would I need thicker springbars (if there is such a thing) so that the watch head doesn't slide around much (although I suppose this is a function of how tight the band is around the wrist)?

Thanks in advance!

I don't own a nato strap, but does it loop through the lug pins underneath the case? If it does and solid particles gets in between the strap and the case back, chances are that it's gonna get scratched up. It gets scratched up even without a nato strap if sand gets in between your wrist and the caseback.

If ima be diving down murky waters, I'd rather have a lightly scratched case back than a worn out oyster bracelet.

You might do a search on the forum for Nato. I know there are plenty of pics of Subs (and I think at least one GMT) on a Nato strap. That should give you some idea of how well it fits. As far as I know, you don't need thicker springbars.

I have heard of ONE incident where the metal overrider on the Nato strap at 12 o'clock has scratched the lugs of the case quite badly

No, it doesn't. The overrider is quite a distance from the lug end. The watch head won't slide about like crazy because the loop through both springbars kinda keep it (watch head) in place.

Although the springbars of my 14060M is thick (which it is suppose to be), a NATO will slide through quite nicely. The Zulu/Maratec couldn't because it is much thicker.

NATOs are not made from sandpaper, so I wouldn't worry about some attrition wear on the caseback due to prolong use.

.
The NATO strap won't scratch the watch because you are not supposed to actually wear your Rolex...

You buy several of them, and straps and such, and you spend your time dressing them up and displaying them..

Have you actually seen a watch on the forum that has been used......NO..

We....I mean they just make them pretty, wash them all the time, take nice pictures, swap out bracelets and straps, etc.,....but wear them....and scratch them....I don't think so..

Nato straps are cool, some on this site get their panties in a twist when you talk about, or show photos of Rolex watches with nato straps. I like them I think it is a nice change. I would wear a nato strap with my Rolex in the field or in certain environments.

Tools is so right. Do any of these people actually wear their watches? They are not ornaments, why spend all that money to keep; it a safe or a case? Wear it and enjoy it in good health.
