gift for wife after first baby?

Hi gang - relatively new to the forum, and a proud owner of my first rolex - the new Sub c. Been hard to remove it from my wrist this past week...it's just so pretty.
So - my wife is expecting our first child - our daughter - any day now. My question for you daddys out there. Did you buy your wife a present to mark the occasion? And no, I'm not thinking of buying her a rolex as she's not a watch person. But I should get something nice, no?

Something simple and classy that she can use for years. I suggest a Cartier Trinity Tri-Color ring. There is 3 of you know! :-)

A perfect gift in a nice Cartier box for the morning after. The colors symbolize friendship, love and fidelity, interwoven in a band that cannot be broken.

Express ship from Amazon if you don't have a Cartier store close by.

It's traditionally an eternity ring in the UK.

Good luck with everything - it's such a fantatic thing. My daughter will be 1 year old next month. I still rush home everyday to see her before she goes to bed.

Got mine a pair of diamond stud earrings and they have not left her ear in the three years since. A nice watch would be wasted on my wife as she prefers purses and rocks.

Good luck with the upcoming delivery.

WOW...you're living my life too. Diamonds and purses here too. Was thinking either diamond studs or one solitaire mounted on a nice chain.
She keeps looking at a new purse so might done that instead too.
This baby is costing a fortune and she's not even born yet....and yes guessing that never changes.

These are just pennies, big expenses are on the way.

The purse: a trip to LV seems inevitable.

She spent some quality time in the LV store in Paris a few months ago....and been on the website a fair amount since. As much as I try to deny it, I just can't.

If you drop $7-10K on a pair of diamond studs on the frist baby, what are you going to do for the second baby? Or third? ;-)

Forget about purses, shoes etc. Anniversaries and morning gifts are for life and so focus on 'core infrastructure', i.e. ring, bracelet, neckless or ear-rings. Let your wife shop her own shoes and handbags (would you want a wallet or pair of wing-tips shoes as a morning gift?)

Go classic. Go eternal. Trust me, I've done the newborn morning gift more times than most! ;-)

You're a good man, for even thinking about this!
My husband wasn't as thoughtful, so I created my own baby-gift! I got a pink tourmaline (birth stone for both my kids) with two diamonds set in a custom-made band!
Definitely go with jewelry!!

p.s. Good luck to you both for the delivery!!!!

I had a similar response, M, but I was afraid of being a buzz-kill. I'm very impressed that so many of you guys would even think about a gift for your wife when your first child was born. Like M, I bought my own baby gift - my first Rolex. Husband and his parents took a week long vacation 10 days after the baby was born. I guess in a way that was a gift.

That's a hard one but diamonds are a girls best friend...so anything with diamonds, a ring, ear rings, etc. and you can't go wrong:)

aaah, yes, the "push present".

my wife cherishes her rings from each of our kids....yes, it's "just a ring", but, they mean much more.

Mine scored some Cartier and a "significant" ring the second time around. Not a bad haul.
Of course, she earned it. I gave her something else as well with the 2nd, but I can't seem to remember what it was.
The push present is required for a C-section as well BTW.

If I went on a vacation afterword she would have had half, if you know what I mean.

Yes, I know. His parents even asked, "Are you sure it's okay if we take you away for awhile?"

"Sure, it's okay. What else is paternity leave for?"

Not sure they would be here when I got back....just a bill for half my stuff and my broken golf clubs on the front lawn.
My dad passed away 3 years ago, and left me his ring which had a 1.5 carat diamond in it. I just got back from the jeweller, and having it made into a beautiful solitaire necklace for her. It will mean something to her, and it means something to me that it belonged to my dad. Diamond rings are NOT my thing to wear, so works out well .

I got my wife a ring with a pair of heart shaped pink sapphires in honor of our twin girls. Jewelery is good but I would also suggest a spa day where you stay at home with the kids and she can have a day without screaming and changing and feeding. Won't last as long as jewels, but it is worth it.

You want to win some points, instead of jewelry let her sleep when the baby comes home.
