GMT Master II Question

Where can I find out how much the above watch sold for in 2004 ? It has a coke bezel if that matters. That's when the warrenty paper was dated, but it's a "Y" mid 2002 watch. So, maybe I should ask what it sold for in 2002.

Anyway, what was retail back then ?

Awesome, thanks so much. I can't believe a GMT II from the early 2,000's sells for more now then when new....

Thanks again

They've become quite popular. This happens sometimes with certain models that are discontinued.

Well, I pulled the trigger. After watching here and on e-bay and visiting about a dozen jewelers and high-end pawn shops in Phoenix I found a Y series GMT Master II with a Coke bezel and bought it.

It has all the papers, tags, boxes, manuals, etc and it's in perfect condition. It's virtually unworn. It was sold in late 2004 at Hamra Jewelers in Scottsdale, a well known AD here locally. I guess they had it nearly 2 years before selling it?? The warranty card is all filled to a local guy here in Scottsdale. It also had a receipt for service in 2009, with it to the same guy from Rolex.

It was at a pawn shop as they had made the guy a loan and he never paid it. I bought it for $4,750, out the door, they started at $5,295. I was looking for this year and earlier because I like the screw-holes in the case for the bracelet.

This rounds out my collection which includes 2 Navitimer's and an Omega Seamaster Professional.

Today's a great day !

Congratulations..

You know..... they did not likely have the watch sitting around for 2 years before the sale...

The Y models were first seen in the market place in 2002... they were not all made and sold on that same day... They were made and sold for at least the following 2 or 3 years..

You don't use a chart to date your watch when you have original paperwork.... The chart is developed by using dates, such as yours, to come up with the manufacturing/market period..

ah, reverse forensics. I was looking on a website, www.gmtmasterhistory.com, that another gracious member provided and it said mid-year 2002. This watch was sold in November of 2004, the day after thanksgiving actually.

Pics tomorrow night, I need a good backdrop.
