Sub at 40% off
Hi Guys
Went to Jared at lunch today and look some of their rolexes. All the sport models are gone, except they still have one NOS Sub probably 05-06 model , solid gold 18k with blue dial. Sticker is $ 25250 @ 40% off still at $ 15150 plus tax 8.25 %, about $10100 off, can you by this watch and flip it for profit later ? and all of their Cellini is at 40% off |

Not if it's not the ceramic model.

Have them mail it to a relative out of state and save the sales tax if you love the watch. Which Jared, I have to pay them a visit with those discounts?

There were 4 good pieces at my local Jared that I had on the table....but none were a keeper. The ones left over were odd balls...or just plain old. One in particular....TT Daytona on an oyster for 10k was tempting....but it didn't have rehaut. Many others were Z series or older....

Not a good one to make a buck on, but fine as a long term keeper.

1. I am a SS watch guy not much with gold. 2. I don't have 16K to buy a watch and not wearing it. 3. If someone do have the means for that kind of purchase, will it be a wise choise since its has a great discount ? 4. will that watch bring the same return or greater value if they ever have a financial down fall and need to sell personal item's ? 5. Salesperson told that one of the customer came in and snatched 15 watches , both men and women watches @ 40% and 45% discounted. 6. I don't think that person is buying all of those watches to wear, but why did not purchase that gold 18k Sub. if that was such a good deal ? |

IMO, mainly because it's NOS.....and getting near time for it's first service. I also believe that the Sub's with gold/blue dial tend to be not as desirable...meaning less people find them appealing. |

its because he is only buying things that are easy to sell. hence the reason to buy it cause you want it. then if you decide to sell it later it will probably hold it value from what you paid. but to buy and sell quickly, wont happen.

Why would be near to service time afraid thats a Internet myth its not a problem for a new unworn watch to be stored for years. And service time starts from the day you wind it up,and strap it on your wrist and start to wear it.

Never by a watch to flip for profit, it's just way to risky. Especially 15K.

Padi: I respectfully disagree, I asked this question to two master watchmakers (and current watchmaker instructors) and they stated although the oils/lubricants used in todays watches are superior to years ago....they degrade (have a shelf life) with time. Note the shelf life on the Moebius synthetic oil's = http://www.ofrei.com/page246.html IMHO, Service time starts when the oil is applied to the movement. To add....the first service can be extended to about 7-8 years as the lubricants are applied by machines....thus much more accurate than a human/watchmaker. |

Called Jareds in the Orlando area. Have 35 watches left mostly gold with a 40% discount.
The Sport Watches are 10 to 15% off with the mandatory 6.5% Fl Sales tax which makes it unattractive to buy. Other locals will send the box out of state and save you the sales tax, Jareds will not. They will not come down any lower on their watches. There are a bunch of stores in the Orlando area with watches in stock they said. I ll pass on the gold watches. |
