Easter Seals regatta
On Saturday our club hosted our 3rd annual Easter Seals regatta, with all the proceeds going to assist disabled children. We had over 100 kids attend, with clowns, face painters, colouring stations. We also took them for power boat rides around the harbour. Hamilton Fire Service sent 2 trucks down and the firefighters loaded the kids on and off the boats. All had a great time. (sorry, can't post pix of the kids).
During the afternoon we held a pursuit sailboat race. Eventually, the awards. At a pre-regatta sponsors' reception last month the hat got passed around. If $1K was raised, I'd have to wear the getup below while handing out the race prizes. It was and I did, proving once again that I can always ??rise?? to new levels of looking stupid. That's OK though, at the end of the day we raised over $25K for wheelchairs, braces, special equipment, etc, for kids with disabilities. http://www.easterseals.org/whatwedo/...rogram=regatta

It was, these are mostly lower income family kids who otherwise wouldn't have had a chance to experience what they did.
Now I have to hunt down some more regatta party duds. You can't just walk into any clothing store and buy turquoise pants with pink flamingos!

Here in the desert, I'm active with the Shriners and our Children's Hospitals and Burn Centers. No kids or families ever have to pay a dime.. I would find a regatta refreshing.....all our lakes are dry.. |

Dry lake beds? Hmmm...... these bad boys go around 75-80 mph in a 25 knot breeze.

Those look like the Lake Beds, just south of me.. I've watched them many times. The only problems are keeping the ATV's and bikers from tearing up the course..and keeping the sand out of everything you own. |

Al,
Nice pics. I had a land sailor for a few years. They do go 60++. Your teeth rattle! Had to give it up when my wife saw a sidewinder (rattlesnake) slither past my rear tire. He was doing about 3 knots. Mrdi |

I'd love to try one! No deserts up here, but a few guys have ice boats. Ultra high speed and turn like a Ferrari. If I could be guaranteed that our harbour would freeze over completely every winter I'd buy one, but it's kind of hit and miss. Some years the harbour has open water all winter, and they don't float worth a darn.
