Greetings TRF,

In the last couple of years, I've been to what I'd call a fairly good amount of shows and concerts and, as I know I'm not the only one around here, I'd like to know what shows you've been to and how you would describe your appreciation of them (as much as you will remember for those who've been to a lot of them

) in one sentence.

Here are mine:

Eric Clapton (first time): My first rock concert and I enjoyed every minute of it, the choice of songs was great!

Neil Young: His part was amazing and the crowd was participating a lot (we even sang happy birthday to his wife) but he had two "first parts" and it was kind of long.

Jeff Beck: Great show with a lot of feeling, he made me like fusion jazz for two hours but it's kinda long when you don't have a singer.

Bob Dylan: I was surprisingly happy with the music but he didn't sing well, my father hated it and still is mad about it!

Mark Knopfler: Boring first part but his show was very nice!

BB King: I drove two hours to see him play in Ottawa on a Sunday night and he talked quite a lot more than he played but it was an unique moment and an amazing concert.

Eric Clapton (second time, with Jeff Beck): Great duet, they played very good songs and seemed to have a lot of fun together on the scene (it clearly showed)!

Jimi Hendrix's tribute show: They played very well but it was a bit too "heavy metal for me" and the first guy played way too loud!

Roger Waters: He played The Wall, I paid the big price for it but it was unbelievable, the most amazing thing I've had the chance to see live!

Joe Bonamassa: Great guitarist, great singer, very underrated to me and he's quite a nice fellow!

Mid-1960's to early 1070's I practically lived @ The Winterland, Fillmore, Fillmore West/Carousel, The Matrix & The Avalon Ballroom........but the best show...the 3 days I spent @ the Monterey Pop in the summer of love, June 1967, that was a great one......(many thanks to my big sister for letting her little brother tag along)

I saw the Steve Miller Band about 20 years ago at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.

No fancy lights, no pyrotechnics, nothing fancy...they walked out, played great for 2 hours, walked off. Walked back on, did a great encoure, and walked off.

It was fantastic because it was all about the music.

Here are a few:

Eric Clapton in Atlanta: Ridiculous guitar playing and 10 minute solos ... Just insane. My buddy mentioned that I wasn't that excited at my own wedding. He was right.
U2 in Argentina ... Meh, more of the same old. The Fly was pretty awesome though.
Oasis in Argentina as well: Good show if you like the band.
Frank Black in Brussels: Best show I've seen in my life ... 2+ hours of non stop awesomeness! Small venue at the Botanic Garden. The band was drinking with the audience after the gig. Too cool!
Iron Maiden in Ft. Lauderdale: too good. I can't believe the energy at their age.

Even though it was a long time ago, special mention goes to Albert Collins in Buenos Aires ... I will never forget good old AC playing his wireless Telecaster while walking through rows of seats and people just going mental.

Thank you for sharing! You made me remember I went to an Iron Maiden concert last year. I've never been a metalhead but I must admit they know how to entertain a crowd! I really enjoyed it!

Did you check some of Frank Black's stuff? Not his immediate post Pixies stuff, but I think you might like Honeycomb or Fast Man Raider Man ...

I should also mention Tom Petty in Houston a couple years back. He absolutely ROCKS live! Great connection with the audience and kicking show!!

Best shows I've seen have been:

1. George Harrison 1974.
2. The Who 1976.
3. Paul McCartney & Wings 1976.
4. Led Zeppelin 1977.
5. Eric Clapton 2002.

All shows were at Madison Square Garden.

The Jersey boys was outstanding, best musical ( about Franki Valli and the 4 seasons )ever.
Saw Kings of leon live last Friday and they were pretty good i must say.

I'm seeing his 'The 'Wall' show in February next year. Also paid big bucks, but I know it will be worth it. Just to see Waters on stage I'd pay big. Although I would pay bigger to see Gilmour...

When I went last year I remember I hardly knew any Pink Floyd and I was going to see it more for the sake of it than the passion but let me tell you, I surely didn't regret it! I do hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did and, of course, as much as I will since he's coming back to Montreal this june!

I have been to a few watch shows; the last one was last month in Minneapolis with reps from IWC, JLC, Panerai and Rolex. The dealer had a 1 of 4 made (the dealer won a lottery to display and sell) of a Patek enamel dialed carousel horse. It was like being in one of the great museums to see that piece.... if I had a spare $100K I might of purchased.

Those are the shows I like to talk about on TRF.

Got invited to join Merle in the tourbus after the show where we drank and partied till dawn.
