Where to get appraisal?
I have an older Datejust (1998). Where can I get a written appraisal for insurance purposes? AD?
Thanks! |

An AD can definitely appraise a current model, on this one I'd start there and see. They may appraise it at current retail though, i.e. current replacement value.
If you want a lower value some insurance companies will accept a recent purchase receipt if it's below a certain value. |

I recently asked for an appraisal at a well known local jewelry chain and was quoted $160 and 10 day turnaround,I turned around and walked away in shock.

ok so question:
Why would I want a lower appraisal value? Is it because the insurance payments would be less? I'm thinking if I bought a $10k MSRP watch for $5k, I'd want it appraised for the full $10. This way if something were to ever happen to it, I'd get reimbursed the full 10k, no? |

Any recommendation on an AD to get an appraisal on the spot in Los Angeles or in Orange County?
My AD (Ben Bridge) said they need to ship to Seattle and it will take about 2 weeks for $100.

Same story here in Hawaii, Seattle is BB Corporate HQs. When I inquired about a service they quoted me $595 and $100 shipping/insurance.

Depending on how you insure it, you may want to have it appraised at retail replacement value. I have scheduled mine, at full replacement value, PLUS applicable sales tax, to include theft, damage, and mysterious disappearance. Even with an appraisal, make sure your policy does not have limits on jewelry that might be lower than the cost to replace your watch, or you could end up with less than the appraised value. Good luck!!

I would call around to a couple AD's. In my town there are two. one is $75 and the other will do it for free if you bought your watch from them, otherwise it is $100.
Good luck! |
