Looks like the DSSD is not the only Rolex to stir up some controversy,

. Some of you guys are really putting my feet to the fire.

Solomander; After wearing the Speedmaster on and off for 30 years + the Daytona is a very nice change. Other than both being SS, black dialed chronos, two very different watches. The Speedy being the more practical and the Daytona the more formal (dressy).

DT14; What I've been trying to share is that the issues I pointed out, which would turn me away from other watches, come together as pluses on the Daytona. I love the polished centre links, the blinding bezel, the intricacies of the sub dial hands and chrono second hand, the balanced writing below the crown, the perfect red Daytona script. I could go on, but suffice to say since I'm not into gold or dress watches, the black Daytona is the perfect dress watch for me, like a tool watch in a tux.

jonnyz1245; If I could afford any more extravagence, I'd love to add a white SS Daytona to the fold. They are an amazing bit of modern engineering and this one will keep me smiling.

Congrats on acquiring your grail. Black-face Daytona was my grail for years as well. Finally acquired one about 4 yrs ago, doesn't get a ton of wrist time but is always quite special when it does. I really like the size/weight/contours/brushed and polished surfaces as well as the (relative) rarity and the undeniable COOLNESS FACTOR that the Daytona has in spades. So who cares if it's hard to read..... Enjoy it in good health!

I was surprised but happy to see the Daytona looked and wore smaller than I thought. The Speedmaster @ 42m is as big as I could go personally.

In the 70's when I purchased my first Submariner it was considered a large watch @ 40m, and is the perfect size for me to this day.

So far although the same size I think the Daytona wears a little larger than the Submariner.

My old Speedy wears the most comfortable, due to the light weight 1171 (?) bracelet, IMO.

Interesting and good to know. I do feel that 42mm is the largest that I could go... the Speedie looks a bit big on my wrist vs. the Daytona, but might still pick one up some day.

Sounds like you are enjoying the Daytona... congrats again!
