Dilemma!

Hi everyone. I'm a long time lurker and a first time poster! I'm 19 now and for as long as I can remember I've wanted a Rolex, and I have almost gotten a few but never gone through with it. This Christmas, however, I'm going ahead with getting one. I'm not buying a brand new one and basically, for all intensive purposes, I have the choice between two - and it's confusing me!

Basically, I like the two watches that my parents are offering me, but I just have worries about owning one of them - the YG DD. Firstly, although I do really like it, I feel as if it's meant for 40+ year olds and that I'll spend the next twenty years with people thinking its fake, or people being jealous/weird about it. To add to the problem, it has a diamond dial (original, not aftermarket) which further makes it over 'bling-y'.

The second is a TT Sub with a black dial, which I like but not as much as the DD. I think it would be easier to just take the Sub, which is probably more age-appropriate.

The thing is that I feel like 20 years down the line I'm going to end up buying a DD anyway, so why take the Sub? Obviously I hope that when I'm able to pay for them myself that I can afford both, but who knows! I guess what I want to know from you guys (the experts!);

If you were 19 again and had to choose between a YG DD (with the diamond dial...) and a TT Sub, which would you take, and why?

Thanks guys!

How about a plain SS Sub? Or an Explorer I? Are they "handing one down" to you, or offering a purchase?

If it is a watch that has been in the family, no hesitation, TT Sub.

Nice problem to have....Happy Christmas!

So, you're 19 and you're having trouble deciding between a $60,000 dollar Gold Day-date, or a $14,000 dollar Two Tone Sub...

Sorry, can't help you with that.....

Exactly. Oh, and the phrase is "intents and purposes"...

As I said, they're both not new watches. The Sub is only a few years old and the DD is early-1990's. I don't think it's an easy choice between the two, and thought that someone could give advice from experience.

Are you related to this guy ???

Anyway it's a no brainer. Take the DD. If you don't like it you can sell it, buy the sub and have some pocket money left over.

Well I guess if I was buying a new one I'd just join the list for a SS Daytona, but personally I actually prefer the TT Sub, although with a blue face.

And thanks, same to you.

The Sub is probably a better choice IMHO.

Because of its utility, you ought to be better served. To remove any sense of blingy-ness (due to the YG/SS nature of the bracelet) put it on a NATO. This saves the inevitable abuse to the bracelet as well.

Thanks for the advice. I see that you have a DD. What was your reason for selling your previous (and fantastic) selection of watches and buying the DD, if you don't mind me asking?

I'd go with the Submariner, but as suggested earlier stainless steel would be my preference.

If you feel this way then why would you even consider wearing it?
