Icon20 R.I.P Hubert Sumlin

Hello TRF Members,

We lost another legend of the blues. Any fan of the blues knows Hubert Sumlin. He passed away today at the age of 80. He came to our local Blues Festival in 2010, and I was backstage with him. He and I had a short but memorable conversation. When I went up to him, right away he said, your a blues guitar player right? I said yes! I said "How can you tell?" He said looking at your hands, I can tell! He said to me, "Don't ever stop playing the blues". I will never forget that. R.I.P Hubert Sumlin!

Backstage at the Festival in 2010, with Bryan Lee as well. No photo of Hubert and just I.

Wow, very sad to hear this. A truly unique talent and style that has inspired countless musicians. He was also the signature sound behind Howlin Wolf.
RIP, my Sumlin.

I can't believe this, we sure lost a great bluesman and, as Dan said, the wonderful guitarist who played for the big bad Wolf. May he rest in peace.

You're very lucky to have been able to meet him Adam. Now I think we can all just keep playing the blues and have a thought about the man.

Great Guitar player and supposedly a great guy, a gentleman amongst some of the harder blues types the Wolf and Muddy ran with.

He'll be missed.

RIP Hubert
