Icon2 Anybody catch Boardwalk Empire's Season 2 finale last night?

WOW... I'm still in shock here... great episode in what's turning out to be a series on par with the Sopranos and the Wire.

Good stuff!

Yeah, that was quite the episode.
Ya' think Jimmy's really dead? Not sure how he could survive two shots to the head.

Loved it. Wow, Big twist!
As this ain't General Hospital, I think Jimmy's gone for good, and he knew it was coming. Though 1/2 the story just went away. The 1st episode next year will be interesting. I'm not sure where it's headed.

Good Show. Taking out Jimmy could be good or bad. Of all of the characters he was one of the most developed. I will have to see how next season goes.
Great second year.

It was a great ep, shame they killed Jimmy abut it was good to see that Nucky had that mongrel in him and could pull the trigger.

The signing of the land over to the church is a great development!

Yeah I could not believe they killed Jimmy. There are a lot of characters tied to Jimmy as well and not sure how they will fit into the show now (his mother, the man with the mask, etc.). He seemed to be such an intregal part of the show. My guess is Owen (The Irish guy who took the place of Jimmy) will have a bigger role in the next season.

And I cannot believe she signed over the land deed to the Church! I cannot wait to see what unfolds from that.

It was a great episode and I really like the series but it cannot be mentioned as anywhere near comparable to the Sopranos at this time, and especially with The Wire. I just enjoy it for what it is and don't hold those shows as a measure, then I won't be disappoint.

Absolutely. It was crucial for the story line. I read an interview with Terence Winter, who wrote the ep (and also wrote the one in Sopranos where Ade gets whacked) and he noted that it was Jimmy who told Nucky "you can't be half a gangster." This was where Nucky fully crossed that line, and why he had to be the one to do the shooting. Jimmy was both complicit against Nuck and a terrible boss. The other key to this finale is that Jimmy explained he died in WWI, and we've learned just how walking-wounded he really was.

Fini for Jimmy is correct.

I thought it was a fantastic finale.

Yep, love Boardwalk-great ending. Right now, Dexter is just as good and I am liking Homeland probably the most of all the cable shows.

Eh, I overheard it from my husband watching it in the other room. I sat through the entire first season. I loved the period details but I thought it got too much off track with minute details. The first several episodes of S1 were amazing.

I just gave up, though, because I stopped caring about the characters, and I though the pace was too slow. The federal agent murdering his partner (drowning) in front of a group of people, with no consequences? Right. And, then, impregnating Nucky's ex in a particularly graphic scene? Ick. Did we need to see childbirth? Or Jimmy's mom with the gangster? Mrs. Schroeder ended up annoying me, too. Perhaps if they had spared us so much of the early drama of her vs. the owner of the dress shop at the beginning.

As it turned out, my husband ended up fast-forwarding through much of the episode.

I thought the storyline with the sniper was cool, though. I did like the undercurrent of the "walking wounded" shell-shocked veterans from WWI. That was such a horrible war, and a lot of the high casualties and brutality were due to the then-new technology, such as machine guns, aircraft, and poison gas. Plus, medicine was sufficiently advanced that men with horrific injuries that would have been fatal just a few years earlier ended up living. The sniper was one such man. Emotionally, Jimmy was, too. He was obviously a bright, ambitious, talented and well-educated young man who might have done far better things had he not been so battle-scarred from the war, and received home in such a less-than-gracious way. So, that aspect of "Boardwalk Empire" fascinated me.

I also liked the Nucky v. Eli sibling tension. I thought the episode in S1 where Nucky went to his father's house was really good.

I absolutely, positively, loved The Wire. I watched each and every episode as they came out.

The Sopranos got to be inconsistent. Some episodes were terrible but others brilliant, and I ended up staying with that until the end.

So, to me, "The Wire" remains the best show, ever.

FYI I started watching "Luther" on BBC, largely because Idris Elba as Stringer Bell in The Wire was so great.

Great show, and a bit of a twist ending. Like the show, although it does seem to drag a bit at times.
