Let's put this in another perspective. You have the clap! Caught by your unsavory mistress. Do you, A: turn to your mother in private? Or, B: shout it out to the 60000 plus members on the forum!?!?!? Maybe a PM of your concerns to Steve would have been better served. The whole point in my objection to your tone and ignorance, was your direction in political harmony.. I'm no longer going to bicker at your lack of the aforementioned. I'm going to warn you of further replies to your lack of personal scope!

Trev, Rob; please, c'mon, you're both decent blokes with valid points to make.
This IS a great community, with best interests at heart for both members and owners, administrators, moderators and those lowly members such as myself who don't know the first thing about how all this site stuff works. I am however, grateful for the presence of both of you and your contribution to make things better for we mere novitiates. Thanks, I mean it. Cheers Richard |

Well, my honest opinion is that TRF needs and warrants better server/ site management. It was quite amazing to see most of the DNS zone info disappeared yesterday, as if someone has hijacked the domain.
It's good to see it back, but I'm unsure what this has to relate to SSL. So far I don't see why using SSL will help much here. If someone was successful in injecting cross site scripting code into the server on 8th Dec, no amount of SSL would help. In fact, if the site was on SSL, it would have impeded on proper diagnostics because all web traffic would have been encrypted and would make it very hard to find out what had gone wrong. The primary concern would be on server security, and the server needs to be hardened against unauthorised access. This is better achieved by professional security admins. No disrespect to Steve, he's a lawyer and not an IT admin. I'm quite certain that we have IT professionals in our membership and someone would know contacts who can help. P.S. The usage of SSL is to show proof to the client that the server is the same server that it purports to be. In addition, the communications channel between the server and the client is encrypted to prove that the channel has not been tampered with or eavesdropped. Nothing more. If the server , or the client is compromised, SSL wouldn't help one bit. |

Steve:
Thanks for your concern and hard work. I am grateful to TRF for all the knowledge that I have gained. I missed the forum while it was down but on the positive side I got to knock off one item on my honey do list. 500 more to do.

What's interesting is how the truly addicted will find a workaround - like ants attacking a stream.

Actually the downtime was my fault.
I tried to change rolexforums.com to point to www.rolexforums.com. Somehow in doing so the nameservers were automatically changed. I didn't do that and no one else did that, it just happened. I didn't find out until about 12 hours later and then it took another 12 hours for the URL to be re-proagated. Also we had to change to a dedicated IP so there you go for SSL. SSL is a great benefit to forum security and confidentiality of information that you may give via personal messaging. Also it is a way to know that you are actually on www.rolexforums.com and not any kind of imitation website. It is happening now and I do not anticipate any more downtime happening in the near future. Once SSL is implemented I will give consideration to carefully re-installing the latest version of 'Tapatalk'. To all those guys who think they know better, well good luck to you.....or should I say bad luck to you because this is the way it is

It's great to be back. Thank you Boss
(gotta laugh though.... Looks like those so called experts have came out from nowhere, pointing fingers at whoever they think is/was at fault. They were more than capable of listing some/most of the past and current forum running/managing issues..... My question to all of you experts - why didn't you point hat out to Stevo or the Mossad soon as you realise something wasn't quite right? As in proactive not reactively pointing fingers and blaming others...... |

TRF enjoys 99%+ uptime over the last 12 months.
And it just keeps on keeping on like a good old Eveready Battery or a Duracell in a toy rabbit SSL is a great security advantage to give an added level of confidence.

Thanks Steve for all you do to keep this great site up and running. I don't know anything about how to keep a forum running, but I do know that it is a lot more work than I would be willing to put in. Thank you for providing such a great site for me to come, learn, and fellowship with others!!

Ah, modern technology... a few well-iintended key strokes... and catastrophe! HaaaHaaa, well glad it worked out well in the end, I was visualizing some hacking attack by a disgruntled competitor site. anyways, thanx for a great (unfortunately addictive) site.
