Flood
I had a little flood in my basement recently with all the rain we have been getting, not a lot of damage, the insurance company has been quite good considering their reputations...my question is I had a Toshiba tv about 8 years old which became affected, the insurance people came to pick it up and said they were going to go test it out and if fixable will fix it for me if not they will right it off, but how or where can I find out the value of this tv...even when new...I have misplaced my original receipt...
Thanks |

I would think an 8 year old TV is not worth very much...sorry. Can you go to the store you bought it at and see if they still have a record of what you paid for it and when???

Check to see if you have replacement cost coverage. If so it should pay the entire price for a similar set. If you don't don't expect much. Used tv's aren't worth a lot as they change so rapidly. Also upgrade to replacement cost coverage if you don't have it now.

I lost everything in a tornado in Kansas 20 years ago. If you don't have replacement cost coverage then they will reimburse you at garage sale rates. An 8 year old TV has no value on resale.....you can pick up a 32 inch flat screen at Walmart for about $200.

What you paid for that t.v. eight years ago is probably head and shoulders more than it's equivalent would cost today.

Unless you have replacement value coverage, it would be a moot point, and if you do, they would simply ascertain what current model best appears to replace yours, and buy you that one, new, even without a receipt.....otherwise, they will depreciate it and give you that depreciated value (they have folks/resources who can tell them what it sold for new). So sorry to hear about this, for even with good insurance, something like that is always very disruptive! Hope it is all sorted out quickly!!
