Suit jacket too? Then DJII except for a black suit and a TT GMT. If no jacket, I'd go with GMT.

Datejust for a suit & tie. Submariner for everything else.

Yes I agree - somehow the bezel looks disproportionate to the dial...so to answer the OP, between the two, I'd go for the GMT IIc.

I only wear my TTc with jeans 'cos I don't own a suit.

Son Ashley's girlfriend knows he has a small watch collection and gave him some cufflinks for Xmas.

I might buy a shirt so I can borrow them.

I took some pix earlier.

Of these two I'd say the GMT.

OP...
just Shirt and Tie are not really "dress".
Even if you included a Blazer or Sport coat, still not really "dress".
You should be ok with either of your choices..
They both are fine watches..

Just curious, for those who say neither make a good dress watch, what watch would you recommend?

This is very subjective and you'll get alot of different responses. Personally, I don't believe Rolex makes any real dress watches, but the closest would be the dj1 or dd1. I guess you could add the Cellini line, but I know very little about them.

for a suit (not sport coat), I would say a DJ or a DD. For true formal Black tie (tux), I would was something very elegant and simple like a Celini.
That is just my opinion..
... There are those who will wear a Casio G-Shock with a suit.. Just saying..

Of the two you have listed, I'd go with the DJ II. I think the GMT IIC is more of a casual watch.

An even better choice would be the Explorer I.
