Wearing a new watch

I was wondering, how can anybody buy I new Rolex and not be tempted to wear it straight away?

Personally the minute I buy a new watch, first thing I do is to remove all protective plastics and put it on my wrist. Yet, we see a lot of "preowned" watches for sale as "BNIB, never worn". How can anybody buy a watch, never wear it and then put it up for sale?

I did that a few times. Some BNIB for sale are from dealers or the owner changed his or her mind after purchasing it but has not worn the watch.

No safe queens has been my motto with everything I've ever purchased. You only have one chance at life!

I can understand keeping the old caseback stickers with the model numbers because it's kinda cool, but otherwise all modern stickers come off asap.

First, I totally agree with you.....I bought my DEEPSEA last week....had the dealer take all the plastic wrap off in the store and wore it out...have not taken it off ever since.

However, there are people that buy watches and flip them for re-sale. Some they may buy off retail price brand new (say Grey...parallel market) and then still sell them as new...never worn for a profit. Not sure how AD get rid of their stock that is not selling.....they may sell into the parallel market as well.....I have no data to back this up but just a thought on how this all could work..

As I am paying for the watch, I will take off all the stickers and put it on!

I can't do it, I have to wear them straight away.

Everybody is different though, and things do happen.

As the number of watches in your collection grows, sometimes you buy a particular model for one specific reason or feature that you find interesting. This applies to anything that you may collect. Thus you may not put it into service immediately or ever.

I think one should put it on then bang your watch wearing wrist into something to put a small scratch on it...from then on you will be worry free!

yes and no.

YES - i usually have the AD taking all the stickers off and adjust the bracelet for me at the shop, then i will take it home, because i have another watch on my wrist.

clean it at home, take pix and wear it at the next opportunity.

NO - unless im gifting it

Also...Some people don't really enjoy their watches...they flip them and never really "get attached". I can't imagine...and don't understand the point.

If your a "watch guy" and that is your job then of course you sell some watches but when a hobby becomes work...that's no fun. Buy them. Keep them. Wear them.

If I am spending a lot of money on a watch I am going to wear it and enjoy it. No need to stick in a safe. Seems pointless to me.

I wear mine right away as well and find it strange indeed that some people will sell them without wearing them. However, as mentionned, they probably got them as gifts and didn't like them or, perhaps, they're saying this as an expression to say it looks like it?

Many ADs allow an exchange within 15 days or so as long as the watch has not been worn, but it's questionable as to whether watches so exchanged can be resold as "new."
