I like my TT 1984 16013. As flexible as a stretched TT jubilee. Like the pic posted a pic further up, TT ties in well with the TT wedding band. I can throw on my 14k medicalert or sterling medicalert bracelet, wear a sterling ring or a gold ring. At 54 yrs old, medicalert's my bling.

54 yrs old...I guess that's a factor some consider. But TT works for me cuz my mom doesn't dress me funny, I do. I can wear it with anything/anywhere.
But it was the 80's when I got my Datejust. And 90's for my 16713.

Would I rather have all gold. Sure. But given a choice between SS or even white gold vs TT, I'd go TT. Versatility.

I have just recently joined this forum and I can't for the life of me think what took me so long. I have wanted to post to so many topics but I guess I'll jump in here since so I can cover so many bases.

I am a child of the 60's, 1960 to be exact and as far as I can remember frequently received watches as presents growing up. My first watch was a Bulova and I must have been around 10 when it was given to me, wish I still had it.

My parents had a summer house at the shore in South Jersey and in the early 70's there was an Ocean Race that featured Cigarette race boats, ( another love of my life) the most famous entrant was Doc Magoon in the Kiekhaefer Aeromarine 1.

Each year the race had a program and there was a picture of Doc Magoon wearing a Submariner in a typical Rolex style ad, from the first time I saw that ad I knew I would someday have a Submariner also.

So from 12 years old on that watch was the model of my watch desires, I had no idea what the cost was or why my dad didn't have one, "I" was going to have that watch.

As I got older (18)a friend of mine who came from a wealthier household heard me tell friends that I wanted to buy a Submariner, well guess what watch he had the next week that S.O.B.

Unfortunately I was not in a position to get mine until several years later. My wife who of course knew I lusted for this timepiece conspired with my Submariner possessing friend to get me my watch. Thinking about this watch gives me pains as I write this, she got me in 1982 or 1983 a Sea Dweller.
The amazing thing about this watch is that at that time it cost $ 580.00, I can see the pen written price sticker on the Rolex box still. I wore that watch every minute of every day for 5 years, being in construction took it's toll on the bands finish but I never ever worried about what I did with that watch and the watch never missed a beat.

In the mid 80's I attended another Ocean race and of course was on the look out for other Rolex wearing fans one of which I became good friends with, he had at the time a TT Submariner with bark finish, that was for lack of a better word.....different.

Some years went by(1988) and at his house a friend of his who worked at Rolex Headquarters in NYC grabs my wrist and demands to know " am I a diver? Why am I wearing this watch? My answer was basically it's a Rolex! granted not a Sub, no one even knew what a SeaDweller was back then, and it's mine so what? He made me an offer I could not refuse at the time, if I gave him my SD he would give me the at the time brand new Submariner model, this had the sapphire crystal, new movement, etc. looking at my SD that had years of construction use and abuse it was a no brainer, now it hurts my brain to think it may be worth more than Sub I wear to this day.

That's another topic I see in many posts, my watch has had more shocks, concrete immersions, salt water, engine cleaner cleanings, etc. it takes it all and never fails.
In all fairness though it has been serviced three times in almost 25 years. I am posting this here due to the fact that I also own a Steel & Gold Datejust
as well, I almost never wear this watch and it looks it, the bracelet is beautiful, the way it catches the light makes it look spectacular at times, my friend who owns 18k DD,PlatinumDD, 18k sub, will switch with me when we are out say in Atlantic City, as you all know it is nice to sample another piece from time to time and I get to admire it when it is on his wrist, it really is a nice looking watch.
I also own a SS DJ, there is something about the Jubilee bracelets when they are tight and clean they really give off an elegant shine. I can understand many of the posters stating that they like SS more than TT, they both are attractive bands. I'll post pictures side by side when I can.

So I guess in my case it is an 80's thing but to each his own. Wearem if you gottem !

I have worn my (late) fathers TT Datejust for over 23 years. Old school or not, I rock that piece daily~ I do it for me. Here is a picture, will be sending it out for an expensive service, but it is what it is... I am turing 40 and my wife is getting me a new Rolex. It's a Milgauss Black (SS), but thats the new look. I gave her a TT Oyster for our first child - still awesome. Here is that one too - I wonder if in 5 years if I end up on FULL GOLD

SS and gold are two metals that go together well. The gold takes the plainness from the SS and the SS tones the gold down a bit. A TT watch is a good compromise for when you don't want the 'total luxury' look of all gold but want to go a bit more dress-up than SS. My aim is to have one of each (at least) in my collection - SS, TT, and Gold.

TT is timeless, not '80's, but if you don't like it, don't buy one. I myself positively wouldn't want a SS non-sport model and in fact only want TT or WG Sub when the time comes to finally afford a new Sub.

If TT advertises you can't afford all-gold, then does SS advertise you can't afford TT ? Does YG advertise you can't afford Platinum ? Rubish to all .

Seconday market definitely not as kind to TT as to SS, that is just the reality of supply and demand and the fact that most TT & YG/WG/RG/Platty buyers are more of an AD crowd.

TT and YG are just out of style in the US at the moment. Not to mention, may of us who have a lighter skin tone, have a hard time pulling off YG. I just feel like a cheesy pimp wearing it......but......as they say.......to each their own! :-)

had a tt sub traded it for a ss sub c. After having the sub c for a year I missed the tt sub so I traded for a new tt sub c black 2 weeks ago. Now I have a tt subc that is great and a ss daytona white. To me the tt gmc and tt sub look great.

I share your taste in this matter, except for the full gold affordability-TT provides some elegance without the 'full Cleveland' look you describe afterward. And, it gives some greater flexibility if you like to match your metals in accessories, glasses, rings, Flava Flave chest chains, etc.

I have a 2006 Datejust TT, white Roman face, fluted bezel and it's as bling as I can manage-not saying much!

On the other hand, I am getting a full gold diamond bezel President when I become the head of a cartel. Any cartel.

Rolex's solid price range are the Stainless steel watches that ranges from $5k -$10k. Those are what majority of the Rolex buyers are spending. It gives you the most bang for your buck, which is why that's the most popular secondary market sector as well. Two-tone and precious metal Rolex watches are beautiful indeed, but it's way overpriced IMHO. For that amount, I would rather spend a little more on higher watch brands.

I like two-tone bracelets. I'd like to see a yellow gold with black down the middle or white gold with black down the middle or even SS with black downt he middle. If they start adding a swatch of color down the middle of a bracelet, before you know it, every color and design will be running down the middle of a Rolex bracelet (or watch band if you prefer).

I dont know why you think TT is unpopular, I have several and I think they are fabulous. The only SS models more desirable are Daytonas due to the limited supply of SS Daytonas released. This is obviously a B.Sxxx marketing ploy, one which I dont buy into. Gold is a precious metal, SS is as cheap as chips, even if it is a high grade SS, its still only steel.

I have really enjoyed reading this thread although it has been tinged with a bit of sadness !....I think it is a sign of the times that people seem to be 'offended' all the time. This offends me, that offends me !!......Is there a particular year when all this 'offending' started ??
Maybe some of the 'offendees' should actually go back to the eighties and maybe................'man up'

On that note, I think we should start a new thread, I have three suggestions. Which do you think we should go with ??

1/ Show us your pics.....TT/Gold Rolex and your care home !

OR.....

2/ Show us your pics.....TT/Gold Rolex and your favourite toupe !

OR How about.......

3/ Everytime I put on my TT or Gold Rolex I can smell cabbage and urine....does anyone else have this problem ?
