1968 meters first 5513
G'day,
This is my first post on this informative site. I picked up my first rolex today, a 1968 meters first 5513, and wanted to post pictures of her where I know she will be appreciated. I plan on wearing it daily and hope to hand it down to my son when the time is right. I'll have a go at posting some photos and hope they work .... Cheers. |

A beauty! Is there anything better than a fat-font insert on a Sub? I don't think so. Congrats!

thanks for the welcome and kind words about the watch.
I think the even patina and faded bezel are going to let me have some fun with nato and leather straps - let the fun begin |

another shot on the nato.
I think the watch would look awesome on a distressed leather nato too ... |

Im told it was all original so I hope that's the case ... its a serial 2,436,XXX which I think dates it to 1968.
From my limited research skills everything seems to match up as it should. With that serial number im pretty sure there is nothing strange about it being a meters first, the pearl is missing (obviously) but that doesnt bother me gives it a more pre-loved look. Im a big fan of patina and love the faded bezel look as far as I know its an original fat font bezel. It didnt come with box or papers unfortunately but I was tossing up between it and a 1998 sea dweller. In the end the character of the watch won me over!!!! |

2.4M SN# makes it a 1970 production date--have you opened the back of the case? Would a 1970 still be a meters first dial?

wkross - can I ask which reference guide you were looking at?
I was on dream-watches.co.uk and they had this: Serial Number Year 1871000 1966 1994956 1966 2163900 1967 2426800 1968 :-) perhaps I need to do some more research Last edited by mysonsrolex; 22 January 2012 at 10:53 AM.. Reason: adding to it |

Most people I think would agree that a 2.4 serial would put it about 1968...certainly before 1970. Beautiful example with nice patina.

Congratulations, great looking watch. It's a beautiful example.
I have a funny feeling I tried your watch on last Wed. In fact when you mentioned the Sea Dweller I'm 99.9% sure. I almost bought the 5513 myself but restrained. You bought it from a great pre-owned dealer and with a year's warranty, that's hard to beat. Again, congratulations, great choice. |
