What's the image that first pops into your head

when you hear the name Rolex? In other words, what model pops into your head or do you associate most with Rolex? What model when you were young? Has that first image model changed over the years in terms of word association? Just curious.

From childhood, the first model that pops into my head is a black (or blue) Submariner with a cyclops. I think that's what I always associated with Rolex. To this day, when I think Rolex, I still think Submariner. It is to me their most iconic watch. I think that's why I got the DSSD, as it's basically just a Submariner on steroids. The other image that would pop into my head as I got older was also a Datejust.

Just curious what people's personal experience and impressions of the brand in terms of watch model.

Uncle's Explorer with the orange hand. He's been wearing that watch since I can remember. Bought it new in Detroit on business and to meet L Iacocca. He was the vice-president for Chrysler Mexico in the late 70s to mid 80s. He adores that watch, it represents way more than you can imagine to him,

First impression of Rolex would be quality and status. As for a watch, GMT, Persident and then Submariner.....

For a long time it was the Sub, because that was the model I would see most when I was in a position to see a lot of them.

I never will forget the first time I ever saw a yellow gold Day-Date. It had a lot of diamonds and it was on the wrist of the owner of an architectural firm that was located in the building where I worked.

He said it was a gift from his wife.

In that particular building alone there must have been 200 Rolex watches and the vast majority that I'd see were Subs on the wrists of newly minted law-firm associates, not to mention the partners.

That experience alone put me off Rolex for a long time.

Goodness goodness gracious, it can only be a full yellow gold President. It is the iconic distillation of success that Rolex represents. I personally prefer the DDII, but any yellow gold President will do.

I think that's the impression I got as well growing up as a childe as well as working in Manhattan as an adult professional. Seemed like everybody had a Sub. Even in college, a buddy of mine bought a fake Rolex, and it was also a black Sub. I guess that's why I erroneous just assumed that this was their largest seller. Given that the Datejust is the largest seller, I thought maybe more people would have picked the Datejust as the model that first comes to mind. It's also interesting hearing people's first associations and experiences from younger years.

I may wear a Submariner for practical reasons and it is my favorite, but the YG Day Date is the essence of Rolex! There is nothig to compare with an all gold jubilee bracelet, nothing at all.
