Question? I just got an Explorer and the makers don't glow or hands???
I bought this yesterday and when I looked it over i noticed that the markers had no glow or hands. It is a 1995. Could the glow go that fast? I have a pick of my Air King from 2002 and it is bright and shinny. Any thoughts??
Oh yeh what about the clasp is this a normal clasp? or was it replaced? Thanks |

The tritium is dead on the Explorer. You got luminova on the Air-King instead of tritium and that lasts a longer time.

Your Explorer has Tritium lume while your Airking has Luminover lume Tritium has a maximum beta energy of 0.018 MeV and its half-life is 12.26 years. But if you charged it with a powerful light it should still glow a bit but not very bright now.

Do you think it would ever go to a patina?

Peter's right. The 1/2 life equation would work like this...
17 year old watch means after 12 years, you've lost 50% of the lume of when it was new. Add 5 more years and you've lost another 21% of what lume was remaining (5/12 * 50%), so you should have a little lume left but only about 30% of the original luminocity. |

I've noticed the lume on most new watches is mediocre at best- even at full charge you really don't get much glow with Rolex watches. Don't sweat it!

don't worry about the lume, your explorer will have a nice patina look to it that your air king will not!!!
