Submariner TT Blue Too Flashy? Please Help!
Greetings!
I know it is ultimately a personal decision, but maybe other TRF members have experienced this. For about a year now I have owned a Gorgeous!!! Rolex Sub TT Blue year 2006 (no lug holes, gold through clasp). This is my first and only Rolex. Recently I have been thinking about selling it to buy another Rolex a little less "FLASHY". NOTE: In a perfect world I would just keep the TT Blue and buy a new one, but funds aren't there. REASON: The TT Blue made me a fan instantly, but I work in sales and I am out visiting customers all day long. I have caught clients several times just staring at the sparkling gold and blue…and quite frankly it is somewhat distracting and sometimes I feel like the clients might think I am "showing off". Don't get me wrong, I drool every time I wear my Bluesy, but I feel it is getting a little more attention than it should. I am considering selling it and buy an SS Sub or SS GMT (Pepsi, Coke or Black). Am I going crazy here? |

Welcome to TRF.
I don't think your crazy. You should wear whatever you are comfortable wearing. If for some reason you don't feel comfortable, then get something you feel more comfortable wearing or decide it doesn't matter what they think.

The fact that they think you are "showing off" or that the watch may be getting "more attention than it should" may very well be a misinterpretation of the situation. I have found that very few (non-WIS) care or notice what kind of watch I am wearing. If you love the watch, then I would certainly keep it (I have the same one BTW). The only way I would consider trading, is if you decide that you would prefer the look of another watch or that somehow the watch no longer is a good fit for your lifestyle. Just my $.02. Good luck with your decision.

^^ Agree.
It seems to me that you might regret selling it.

It's just that most of the time I wear short sleeves...and TRUST ME...here in Miami at least...the Bluesy makes a quick first impressions. I finally decided to write this post just after a meeting this morning when a client said "Woao that must've cost a fortune, no wonder your prices are getting so high". Hence my concern (wink)

I think that you should get whatever watch makes you feel the most comfortable. I like the black SS for my personal style because it does fly better under the radar. However, SaddleSC does post some really great advice above.
BTW, your current watch is a really nice one. :)

Keep the blu/blue. Buy a Casio for the times you are embarrassed.

NO! Don't sell it, you'll always regret it. I've got one and it gets the most attention of any of mine, but I'll still never part with it. You bought yours because YOU love it, not for anyone else.

Got rid of mine years ago for the exact same reasons. I think that watch in particular, catches more peoples' eyes than others. I have gone with mostly vintage watches now. I do have an 18k Daytona with a strap that is just about the most flashy I could go, but if you don't have the money right now, I would not hesitate to tell you to go stainless steel. You'll feel more comfortable.

If I was in sales, and I am there is no way I would make sales calls with that watch on : people are much to jealous and petty to take that chance like that with your career....or even the next sale.
Trade it for a plain old SS sub, with cash to you !!! or make it the weekend watch and buy a cool Seiko IMHO |

Maybe keep it and seek out a nice Omega seamaster 2254.50 - that's not too flash and a lovely watch, and you will have two fantastic timepieces without breaking the bank.

I would never sell a blusey if i owned one... if you think its getting too much attention in your sales meeting, then buy a cheap watch for those meetings. I would just buy a 100 dollar invicta or citizen watch.

The TT Blue Sub was my first, loved it but eventually grew tired of the flashy look. Flipped it last year for my Sub-C, no regrets!

Depends on the business you are in. In my business (managing peoples money) the blue sub would be too flashy for my comfort. IMO.

I think you are over reacting a bit. Its just a watch. It really is not that expensive if you think about it. Now if you were pulling up in a Ferrari to work in the morning then it might be a different story. If you love it then keep it and wear it. Now if you are talking about buying the Hulk then lets get it sold!!

Well it's a Rolex Classic - I wouldn't personally call it "flashy" but it does have a "presence"! Are you sure your not overinterpreting peoples glances enhanced by your own awareness of the watches presence ("I drool every time I wear my Bluesy")? In any event if you sell it you will probably regret it. But if its at the point where it bothers you, consider buying a cheaper understated watch for everyday business wear and keep the Sub TT.

I have the same watch, love the older original blue, and experiance the same issue. I wear a Bulova Marine Star 96G55 most of the time. For $300 you can afford to keep your beautiful 2-Tone Sub

Not work the risk IMO, if you love a high quality watch the Omega is a greta option and come up for sale here on TRF from time to time, otherwise Seiko. |

Tricky....some clients might think their costs go to your lavish lifestyle ( and why shouldn't it, it's called running a business and making profit ) yet some clients might think this guy must be good.
If your quotas are being damaged, because you seem smitten on your TT, go buy a swatch or something, something you can just leave in your briefcase or glove compartment so that you can make a quick and simple exchange. After your meeting, switch the swatch and your back in your comfort zone. Just don't get caught by the same client switching or see you wearing alternate watches. In all seriousness, if your that concerned, flip it for another Rolex your more comfortable with. |

I hear what you're saying. The TT sub is an impressionable watch. Call it flashy, stunning or whatever, but it does have a presence. It you can't wear anything but Rolex, I say sell it and get something more suitable for your lifestyle & job. If your open to perhaps wearing another brand, keep the bluesy and get something within your budget. There are many many watches under $1k that could get the job done.

It's a really nice watch, I personally wouldn't sell if I had one.
Who cares what other people think as long as you love wearing it. |

Sounds like you still love your Bluesy and who could blame you, they are amazing imo.
Perhaps you could dress it down with a leather strap or Nato ? Or another option might be a pre-loved Explorer 1 / SS Submariner allowing you to keep your first love ? Chances are you'd regret letting go of your TT Submariner. Good luck with whatever you decide. |

Since you obviously still love the watch you'll definitely regret selling it.
Do you need to wear a Rolex at work? Why not add a nice Seiko or Oris to your collection? |
