I just went through the same exercise. I gave the watch to my wife about a couple of months ago, and we just had our baby last week. The choice of size really depends on personal preference. People will spout out bigger is better, but that isn't always true for women. They also tend to be particular about personal fashion.
I purchased a TT 26mm DJ with Jubilee bracelet. It wasn't hard to select for her since I've seen her wear this particular style of watch previously but in a different make. My wife is also petite at 5'3" and her ring finger size is about 4.5. Because I wanted to make sure that it was what she wanted, I purchased it for her from an AD (Authorized Dealer), but I had them wait to fill out the warranty card and take off the stickers. After I gave her the watch, I brought her to the AD to look at all the various makes and models that they had. She was free to exchange her watch since we had not yet taken stickers off or filled out warranty card. In the end, she stuck with the model that I gave to her, but I did give her the option to pick out whatever she wanted after I gave her the watch I had selected. Here's a pic she sent to me of the watch, and she absolutely loves it. Her only complaint is that it feels pretty heavy to her. I think that the DJ is likely the most popular Rolex model sold to women. Anyway, the way I went about it, it was a surprise, and she got the model that she wanted. Congratulations on the news! Good luck and hope this helps.

Just measured it and it is a 31mm. I remembered we went with the mid size because she thought the 26 was too small and I thought it was a 34mm but I stand corrected. I do remember you had the same watch and I think you even warned me about it being difficult to read the concentric dail in the sun because it reflex's so much (which it does) but she still liked it best from what we looked at... Until now and that darn flower dial!

It doesn't matter which Rolex you finally get for your wife, she's going to love and treasure it:)..and yes, I didn't tell my wife before I got her one, I think is more exciting that way!

I would recommend to the OP to see what watches his wife has or is used to wearing. If she owns/wears larger watches, the 26mm may indeed seem small and hard for her to read. It's all a matter of personal preference. If the watch thing doesn't pan out, another idea as a "push gift" for your wife is a ring. I got her a platinum ring from Tiffany's with alternating diamonds and blue sapphires in honor of our son. For our daughter born a year and a half ago, I bought her the same ring from Tiffany's with alternating diamonds and pink stones. She stacks them and they look cool together. Your wife could also stack them with her wedding band/ring if you pick a style that works for her.

Cool. I actually prefer the 31mm as well for my wife if she would have it. Good luck!

First, congrats on your impending 'delivery'! Very exciting!
I'd also recommend the larger 31mm, and a simple classic look in all steel. Very versatile! |

Agree with my gal colleagues here on the 31mm. There are so many dial and bezel options, and if you like the smooth bezel and oyster those are also relatively more affordable specs. It'll be a wonderful gift!

Just got back from an AD. Leaning towards the DJ. Just a simple steel DJ with pink dial and diamonds for the hour markers...thoughts? Also really liked the Oyster Perpetual (without the date). thought it looked nice without the date...Any pictures to share taht will help me make up my mind?
Also, can anyone share their experience on the % discount off the MSRP an AD will give? |

My wife just picked out a steel DJ with White gold bezel, jubilee bracelet, White dial with roman numerals. Arriving on Monday. Classy, classic. Smashing.

I picked one out for my fiancé and she hated it. Took her to the AD and she picked something I never would've thought she would like. Let her pick. Trust me. You don't want a $10k watch she won't wear.

I have to agree... I know you want to suprise her but you can do both. Don't tell her where you are taking her and set up a romantic date. Go have a lunch or dinner, then give her an excuse why you need to swing by an AD. when there suprise her by showing her the selections in your budget where she can pick from. As I said, I had a YM all ready to buy and found out she didn't like the look so if I had pulled the trigger, it would be wasting away in a safe. It's a pretty big investment to guess wrong. Just my 2c.

I got this his (36mm) and hers (26mm). For my wife, it was her first Rolex and she really loved it and loves it to this day still. However, she now finds it small.
