New kid on the block
Hi, my first post and a total "newbie" to Rolex. I just inherited a Rolex from my father and am clueless to its value for insurance and upkeep. Can you steer me to a link or part of this forum that can walk me through this? Thanks, Tom
ps. It was given to my father Christmas of 81, I believe. I am not even sure if I am allowed to post a pic of it yet, being new to the forum. |

Hi, Tom, and welcome to TRF. Glad you found our friendly forum.
As for the watch, this is the right place to post for information. But we need more information about the watch. What model, what metals, has it been serviced (and when was the last service), is it still all original - have any parts been replaced? And, yes, you should be able to post pics, for general discussion. No sales offers yet. You need 15 days and 15 posts before you can list on the sales board (not saying you want to, but them's the rules).

Hey Tom, welcome!
Depending on reference 1981 could put you in a nice place. If you can post a pic and some additional info.... |

Welcome to the forum.
And, sorry about your loss. Most of the folks here probably intend to leave a Rolex (or ten, in some cases) to their children. I hope you enjoy it and wear it for a long, long time--for lots of reasons. Can't wait to see the pics! |

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your dad. At least you have something very nice to remember him by.
We'll look forward to some pics and hopefully the savvy here will be able to give you some info about the watch itself. |

Pics
Many thanks for the warm welcome given me by the forum. I think I may have found a home. Sooo, as per your advice, I have two pics I hope I can fit into the attachments. 1981, possibly 1982 for my dad's 40th anniversary. As far as I know, and I will check with my mother, there was no work done on the watch other than Rolex cleaning. There are two heavy scratches on the crystal and I will need to replace that. I know the watch is gold and I believe, but am not positive, that my mother paid about 3g's for it. Maybe a little more, maybe less, I will check that out as well. Can't find a model number save "57" stamped on the back. Do I need to open the back to find the serial number? Also, it is self-winding. Thanks for everyone's help. I am scared to death to take it in locally for fear of a switch. We are only sixty miles from the border and you would not believe the thievery in this otherwise wonderful city.

Yes, welcome! I'm sorry for your loss. As a small suggestion, you could always send it off to Rolex for authentication and a service. Recommended service intervals are about 5 years, and Rolex is certianly trustworthy. Your serial # is located on the case between the braclet lugs at 6 o'clock. There are many excellent resources here, this is the most friendly bunch on the planet, IMO. I hope you enjoy your stay, and the fine momento of your father.
