I was at an AD in Atlanta today and was looking at a SD.
Is the dial slightly smaller than a sub????

Yep, the dia of the dial/face is smaller on the SD.

It definitely looks smaller when you have them side by side. I have seen where some say it is 1mm smaller but I remember seeing a thread where someone measured them with some sort of calipers and they were the same size.

I had met up with a guy locally, compared our watches side by side and the sub definitely looks larger.

There is a chart out there that someone will likely produce that shows a difference of .65mm. I just did a search for the thread that I mentioned ealier but couldn't find it. It may have been from Nick Hacko but unfortunately he deleted all his old posts.

It's (partly) an illusion. The case is thicker, giving it a "smaller in width" appearance.

The SD dial is definitely smaller than that of the Sub-date.
The outer case size, however, is the same at 40 mm. Here ya go, this chart should clarify matters!! Check #2
