As long as you can find one with a great bracelet and in the dial color you want I have no issue with used, actually prefer it....many people buy a watch like this and wear it on Christmas and Easter

But, if your an AD guy, it sounds like you are getting a smokin deal

For me I'd prefer new but wouldn't be able to afford the right exact one I'd want.

But I'd concerned buying used, unless from a trusted seller here.

Or I'd have to go pay an AD with onsite watchmaker to open and verify.

Buy used. Put the money saved into a savings fund for your children.

That's fine with me, we need people like you otherwise there would be no secondhand models

I'd go for a 2nd hand one!
I would hardly see myself purchasing a brand new day-date for some reason...
Also, second hand day-date watches are considerably less expensive, offering you the possibility to spend some money in another watch, or even in a completely different project

I'm going to take a middle of the road position. If, and I mean IF, you know the provenance (i.e., service history and authenticity) of the watch by purchasing it FROM the original owner whom you trust (preferably a friend), then I'd go for it. Otherwise, I would purchase new. There are too many fakes and used watches with expensive "problems" which become apparent typically ONLY when submitted for RSC service. Of my 3 Rollies, 2 were purchased new. The DD was purchased from my now ex-girlfriend who bought it new, had all the paperwork, and pampered it; in that situation, I had no reservations about buying it from her.

I pondered a pre-loved DD before buying a TT DJ new from AD as the MSRP of a DD is beyond my reasonable means. This grail should be purchased for your own lifetime and then passed down or sold by disinterested relatives shortly after the dirt covers your grave.

So New from AD is my vote !

if money is not and will never be an issue for you, then brand new with a good discount. otherwise, pre-owned.

To the OP: You've obviously thought-out both scenarios very well. If you were a one watch guy then I would suggest buying BNIB. But you don't seem like the sort so buy pre-loved and get another watch!
