TT/Gold, Old mans watch Poll???

Ok, from the other poll I have, we determined that Rolex watches in general are not old man watches, cause more than half of forum members have bought before the age of 35.

Now, what about TT or all Gold models? Are they an old mans watch?

Lets up the age a bit, lets say cut off between young and old is 40. (that means I am just starting to hit old age )

So, if you own a TT or Gold Rolex, did you buy before or after 40 years old?

I am 63, keep myself extremely fit, dress well, groom well, and have plenty of friends in all age brackets.

For me an "old man" is someone with a big paunch, sloppy dresser, does not get hair-cuts, wears shitty shoes and has bad breath.

Now that that has been set straight, I have bought and sold watches most of my life, from Patek to Swiss Army. A TT watch is not an "old man's watch" unless the guy wearing it is a slob who doesn't keep himself presentable. JMO. Larry

I couldn't vote because

I've done both. Bought my first TT at 31, and finally my all gold at 57. But then I bought my First Panerai at 57, and a white dialed 48.4mm Breitling Super Avenger at this age as well.

So try fitting my bling rapper Breitling, and my "so young, so cool" Panerai, with an 18K Rolex.

Maybe, just maybe, stereotypes don't work.........

Well, we will have to put you down for under 40 then Green Arrow!

Personally, I think a TT or GOld watch looks a little better on a man with a little grey in his hair, than on a 20 year old. Grey hair, along with a TT or Gold watch, on a well dressed gentleman, gives a distinguised accomplished look!

Green Arrow, I still am drooling over your Rose Gold Panerai Radiomir!!!!!!!! That is such a nice looking watch!!! I should have bought one, when I had the chance to in Bangkok!

I got my first all gold watch when I was 13, bought for me by grandfather. It was subsequently stolen at my brothers wedding. I then got my wife a gold watch at 24, then got my self, my wife WG daytonas age 26 for my 27th birthday.

TT are just more dressy and the only way to go for Rolex watches since most folks would want it to last for several years. Its more likely for an older person to be able to afford a gold rolex and hence the stereotype.

Gold's colour is yellow. Its ageless and timeless. Its precious, will always be and may be more so in the future.Gold reserves are getting less, not more.Having a look at my Blue TT Sub ...... God,its fantastic !!! Would love a solid YG watch one day !!

A solid gold Rolex .... timeless and ageless. Its always in style.White gold may be in fashion now,but fashion comes and goes .......

I love YG !!

It is all a matter of personal preference and taste.

Personally, I don't care at all for the look of "Mixed metal". For me there is EITHER steel OR gold.

I would love a DD 118238, though:

Do you plan on making the 118238 with silver stick dial your next purchase Bo?

I dont think TT is an old mans watch at all.

A lot of younger people are getting into the whole TT look but SS is still the main preference.

No, the DD most likely will not be my next purchase simply because I don't have that kind of money for the time being.

But I just might get the GMT IIc, maybe even by flipping my SD!

I understand that I have no say whatsoever on talking about which watch you will decide to own and I respect that. However, I hope you keep the SD for a long time Bo. I know I would.

If you flip the 116520 you would be able to get your exact grail DD on a D series, Bo.

Just a thought.

Why the heck do all of these "old man" threads use 35 or 40 as the cut off age!!!

I just went out and bought another wedding band to get rid of the gold look, been maried 11 years and I dont remember anything other than gold bands at the time. I guess you know my answer, not into the gold look, and never really wore my wedding band till I got my new steel one.

I think they use around here. You can see he also thinks 24 is old so either he is a teenager or he has a weird sense of humor.
