Does a BNIB D-Serial Datejust need to be serviced?

Hello fellow enthusiasts. I am considering purchasing a BNIB, never worn, D-Serial 116334 Datejust from a store that was once a dealer, and is no longer a dealer. It is everrose gold/SS with jubilee bracelet and pink stick dial. The offer is 20% off retail ($10,400) and the seller will throw in two extra links that I need to fit my big wrist.

Boxes, papers, tags all included. Does this sound like a good deal? If I am correct, a D-Serial watch is from like 2007. Because it has been on the shelf for so long, will it need service? Any other considerations considering the AD is no longer an AD?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't buy it at that price.

P.S Are you sure that 116334 is the right reference number? I believe that 116334 should be all stainless...

I may be wrong.

Hi Keeperoftime. I am relatively certain that is the correct reference number. The stainless number is 116234. Can you explain why the price sounds to high?

Thanks...

Yes, the offer is $8320 with the two extra links. I would love to have some rationale as to why folks think this is a high price? Because retail when the watch was produced was less? It has to be serviced? AD out of business? What are your clarifying thoughts?

Sorry I have the serial number wrong. It is the two-tone datejust, in everrose with new style jubilee clasp and solid center links.

C
The watch will not need a service that will be from around 5 years after you have started to wear it.And D serial could be from around April 2005 till May 2006 thats when the case was stamped. But watches like the TT DJ are not huge volume sellers so could well be 2007 or later before AD had the watch in for sale.

That would be the 116333 except it comes with Oyster bracelet.

The 116334 is an all SS DJII and the 116234 is an all SS DJ.

A D Serial would place it as a 2005 or 2006, however is the serial number 7 or 8 digits becuase if it's 8 digits it would actually be a later production year.

Thanks Padi56. Do you have any thoughts on the price? Anything else to be concerned about?

Okay. You have the model number wrong. 116234 is a 41mm Datejust II in all stainless. The Rolex 116333 is a 41mm Datejust II in SS and yellow gold(not rose). Also there are NO D serials of the watch, only V and later. Also these do not come with jubilee band.

You must be referring to a turnograph in stainless and rose gold hence the retail being $10,400. 116261 is the number for an 18k rose gold and stainless steel.

You can definitely do better on the price IMHO... Around $7400 would be my guess. Maybe cheaper.

Thanks MonBK. That seller actually responded to my want to buy ad here on the forum that had been posted with no reply for months. It is certainly not the most common combination, so I'm worried I won't be able to find another one.

Except for the price, how about serviceing an old watch, never worn? Or... Rarely worn?

It sat for 5 years, what does that tell you.....not a big seller, heck not a small seller either, I would push for 40% off if they want to get rid of it fine, if not, walk away
