on the fence DJ 116200 or Exp1 114270

Soon I may buy either an Exp 1 36mm 114270, or a DJ 116200.
If you have experience owning and wearing both of these models, please give me your opinion.

Oh man you gotta go with the 114270. Even a 116200 owner told me the Explorer is more comfortable.

I have both, the Explorer 1 is more comfortable, but you lose the date.

You can also wear the Explorer 1 for sport or dress, and the DJ is usually better for dress & casual, rather than sport.

I'm particularly fond of the DJ, however I have yet to wear an explorer one, as I personally dislike the look of the watch, thus I can't say which is more comfortable. I can however tell you that the 116200 will always score well in my books.

I'm sided with the DJ.

Give me a 116200 any day! The new bracelets are nothing short of magnificent, and I love the new polished areas, just takes the watch to another level. Then again, I am biased

I chose the 114170. It's just a better-looking watch and more versatile in my opinion, of course. Also, I'm rather biased, too.

My personal preference would be the 114270. To me it has the most beautifully portioned dial of any reference. I find myself staring at all my watches but the Explorer just elicits more smiles. BTW, it's also the most accurate mechanical watch I own, +3 seconds over a ten day period.

I own both and I have to say that the DJ is a better watch in general: Better clasp, has a date, has more dial options, and has a certain amount more recognition as a Rolex. My Explorer (-0.5) does keep better time than my DJ (+3) though and I get the impression that it is more robust but that might well be my imagination.

I also have to admit than on various occasions while wearing the Explorer, I found myself wishing I had the DJ on (mainly for the date feature). I even contemplated trading it in for another DJ once but didnt go through with it.

I'm personally leaning towards a DJ or an Oyster Perpetual Date. Any advice?

Both beautiful watches, but I prefer the classic styling of the 116200 DJ.

Both great choices. I was going to say 36mm Explorer I but then I tried one on yesterday. It's a fantastic, comfortable watch but it looked a little small on my not-large (6.75") wrist -- and I'm not a fan of big watches.

For some reason, despite its same case size (36mm), the Datejust doesn't look small to my eye. Doesn't make sense I know, but my advice would be to try both on and consider the size of your wrist.

Both are beautiful watches but if you want a watch that is worry free 15 years from now go with the 116200 DJ without the lume.

Unless you have to have lume... when the time comes the lume is not as bright as original you will be asking yourself the age old question... Should I or shouldn't I get a new dial and how much $$$. At least the DJ is a simple service.

Just something to keep in mind.

Both great, I have owned both. I would 100% vote for the DJ, no question. Good luck, can't go wrong with either. Both classic. But DJ it is.
