Argh, what have I done!

Well, this is bitter sweet today. I feel like I've overdone it. Today, I traded my 14060m in for a new model GMT-II. It's not so much that I miss the 14060m, but it just feels like a bit of madness. Last weekend, I picked up my first Panerai!

I'm sitting here looking at the LV sub, the SD, and now the GMT-II....thinking "what am I doing?" And I just really feel guilty. I honestly don't need 3 of these. The 14060m, while I loved the dial, just didn't feel right on my wrist like the SD does. The LV is awesome, but I rarely wear it out. There is also a Planet Ocean which I rarely wear.

Do you guys keep buying new watches but really end up only wearing your comfortable old shoe one?

I almost feel like selling the lot and just sticking with the SD and Panerai for a year. This shopping stuff can be madness!

Come down off the ledge!!!

Hey, first, you deserve it!!! Second, enjoy them. The new GMT is really special. Wear what you want, when you want. Do you have a 4 watch winder?

Thanks! I guess I do feel I deserve it, I work hard. But it still feels a little overkill for me. I wasn't always used to getting stuff like this.

I have 2 single watch winders

It is an absolutely stunning watch, there is only one thing that bugs me about it. It rests too flush against my wrist. The SD and sub just sit on the center part, but my wrist seems to be perfectly shaped to make a suction cup behind the GMT, leading to sweaty, irritated wrist.

I think you may be right...I was realllly close to getting the Panerai 233, an 8-day hand wound GMT. But at just over $12k, it was a bit hard for me to swallow.

In theory, I should probably keep the SD and Panerai, and maybe the LV. I never see anyone wearing the LV and it's definitley unique looking, I think even moreso than the new GMT.

Now...I wonder if I even CAN return it. Sigh. Haven't scratched it, but I did remove stickers.

I got a Ti one, the 240, which weighs about the same as a regular sub! It wears very light with lots of breathing room. It also moves around a bit more, which is good, and does not have that suction cup effect on me.

I would not feel guilty if I were you. You just love watches, so why not just wear and enjoy them?

Please post a pic of your new GMT II (and the others), please!

Guilt feelings...

About what...about having the ability and good taste to have a fine collection of some of the worlds most sought after time-pieces.

It doesn't matter if they get worn or not....that's just a mind set..get over it...deal with it..

Go get a nice glass topped display watch box. Put them all in there and whenever you go over to get your daily wear out, you will see what incredible taste you have in watches...

Congratulations on the GMT...Great watch..

Yeah man, good for you and good on you.

I bought 2 Rolexes in the last month, felt what you were feeling, woke up in the morning, realised I had a choice of 3 Rolexes to wear that morning, and it was all good. Sounds a bit crass, but I realised there and then that I've done it, exercised my free will and should therefore enjoy the fruits of my labour.

Wear 'em with pride and in good health.

well as long as you have given to charity and keep your donations up then buy the whole lot out.

Seriously,

buy as many as you can afford to and wear them all in good health

Morgman, I bought the SS GMT-II about a year ago, then got a Panerai 119 and TT GMT-II right after! I can relate! I really wish I had a SD.

Do not sell, you will regret it. We all do.

Or sell to us, your family!

Sell all except two. You really only need two watches. One for primary, and one for an alternate and/or backup. Sell the rest. Enjoy just two. The money you get from selling the others, you can do some travel with. Remember, you can only wear one at a time.

And this coming from the man who last week talked himself into keeping four watches!

Sorry, Chad. Couldn't resist the jab.

Nobody 'needs' more than one. If you're unhappy, sell them and save some money; why would you want to keep something you're unlikely to use? It's dead money.

by jove, i think he's got it! and despite the My Fair Lady reference, I'm serious. I think he DOES have it......compulsive shopping is a clinical problem, and I call it WATCH FEVER, and incurable, degenerative disease characterized by buying and selling watches, sometimes at great monetary loss, and allowing others to profit(greatly) thereby, while never, ever being happy with what you've got. I know I have WATCH FEVER BAD.

My Reply:

Ummmm. Let me tell you a story, a friend of mine in Costa Rica bought the LV. Very excited of course. Later he hated the green bezel. Sometime after, I ran into him with a "black sub", which turned out to be the LV, but he replaced the green bezel with a black one. He does like the Maxi Dial though, but got "sick" of the green dial (looks tacky and fake - not his words).

My Hypothesis:

Maybe there are many LV's out there, but people get "over" the GREEN BEZEL and switch out for the elegant BLACK BEZEL?

Another Thing I cannot wrap my mind around:

Odd thing, I still can't understand about the above. You can put a BLACK bezel on an LV , but you cannot put an LV bezel on a normal sub.

There's a better percentage of LVs being locked up safely than having the green bezel replaced with a black one.

Interesting comments about reasoning for not seeing green subs out there. For me, I don't think the kermit would be a daily wearer, as you're right, it doesn't go with everything, and-or can get old. Rolex probably did that on purpose to sell more! I wonder how many people have the kermit as their only Rolex?

Well, I think I'm over my initial worrying about the over-indulgence feelings.

I am going to do three...one for every day function (My GMT ll original), one for conversation and theoretical diving (LV) and one for dress (watch to obtain....either SS Daytona or rose gold DJ).....Those 3 niches are enough for me although I could probably do this with 2.

FIRST: I would be inclined to agree if we are talking about Hard Core, Mid Core and Soft Core collectors..........but how many people out there fall into this category? A massed produced watch............how many buyers are genuine collectors with a strategy?

SECOND: In fact, why not take a census just from the users of this forum? How many fall into which section?

THIRD: How many people in the world plunk down $5k+ for the KERMIT and are willing to wait for it to increase in value? I have not noticed anyone that has bought it @ $5k+ and made a profit from re-selling it. If someone has made money, maybe it were those that bought it when it first came out and before the anual increases.

From being on here for almost a year and owning an LV myself...my observation has been that those who own an LV would not replace the bezel with a black one. Only 1 person has admitted doing so. I have read about a few people who own one, but not wear it often. And there's people like Mike who owns 2 with one locked up with all the original plastic still on. Someone from Austin just raised the question about buying an LV for investment purposes. One of my best friends was thinking about doing the same. These are all long term investment thoughts and not a quick flip.

So I still believe that the ratio of those who own an LV would be in favor of it being put away than having the bezel replaced.

My LV is my daily wearer and it's my only Rolex. I'm really a one watch person and rarely wear my other watches. The green bezel is unique and that's why I like it. And since it's a sport watch and I wear golf shirts the majority of the time, I really don't have an issue with it matching. And if I were to wear a dress shirt, the cuff would hide the watch anyways. But the fact that since it's a Rolex, it doesn't matter what I wear.

Look at this picture and tell me how can this get old?
