I was in Vegas last weekend and the dealer was a complete a-hole. There was a young Asian couple at the table, maybe from Taiwan, and you could tell that they were not comfortable. Consulting with each other on every hand, but betting big at times, and smaller at others ($10 up to $100). The man had maybe thirty $25 chips and another thirty $5 chips, and he asked for change of $5 chips for four $25 chips, and the dealer refused, said he already had enough $5 chips. The dealer had plenty, it wasn't like he had to conserve them until he got a fill.

Then after a blackjack and the man had a 50 cent piece, he put it out to play for the dealer and the dealer openly mocked him, saying "wow, what a great tip", which of course the man didn't understand the sarcasm.

Had I had the time and felt like going through the hassle, I would have had a nice talk with the pit boss about how his dealer was acting.

I've also had other dealers make comments when people are winning, but not tipping at the Blackjack table. I generally won't tip until I leave, and then only if I'm ahead. I walked away about $150 ahead and left behind $10 for the dealer. Unless I win a big hand I generally won't tip while I'm playing.

before recession dealers were very practical and nice, in the recession they became a holes and the service went out the door.

as for the food at the buffets used to be above average, now its way below average.

Being seasoned visitors to the USA we tipped 20% in all restaurants visited but it we did notice the server's disappointment in their eyes when they heard our British accents.

In the UK 10% is the norm.

When I take my wife and two children out at home the meal tends to come to £80-90 and we're there for two hours max.

I tip £10 cash and the server is always pleasantly surprised.

One time I was out with a small group of work associates two of whom decided to outpeacock each other, drinking £1200 worth of VSOP and uuber expensive Port.

I paid the tip, but only for the food and real world drink. Still a £50 tip though.

It was worth it to see these two aholes faces the following morning when they were sober and broke.

What about takeout? I don't tip when I pick up a carryout. However, I sometimes feel uneasy because there is a line on the credit card receipt for tipping, and I'm not sure what the norm is. Do you guys ever tip on a takeout?

Restaurants, even in Finland. (Tipping isn't common)

Europe 10%, US 10-20%.

Hotels, a few times, in hotels where the service is great, let's say the person checking you in actually takes you up to your room. Maybe 20 euro...

Doormen at hotels, always. A few bucks per luggage.

Taxis, 5-10%.

Bar doormen, never.

Bars, Finland, never. EU, 10%. US, 10% or a $ per beer.
