M is the newest series (just came out). Before that was Z (which ran up until very recently)

Yes, the M-series is the latest and current series.

I have an M-series SD and SS Cos.

C,

Rolex has been using a letter prefix in their serial numbers since 1987 when they started using R.

They went through R,L,E,X, in sequence (no 0 since it looks like o) up until early 1993. In 1992 (yes it overlapped by a year) they began random letters as a prefix until we are where we are at today with the Letter "M" being the ones just recently released.

To date they've used 18 letters.
