If Rolex did offer a variation of the matte or glossy dials on their subs, and leave the white gold surrounds off the matte (like their older dials) do you think more people would want matte?
You have to admit the matte dials (vintage) are commanding record high prices. Has this already been discussed?

Yes, the matte dials are more desirable in general, at least among collectors.

I have in fact seen that site. I for one love the older style matte dials without the white gold surrounds. And it seems like I'm not the only one with the prices these watches are commanding and getting. I mean to mean the better value for your money would be a pre-owned recent model. It makes you wonder why Rolex won't at least bring the matte dial version back for a year or two and see how well it moves. My guess they couldn't keep making them fast enough. Especially if it was some kind of anniversary run for just one year. For that matter, stick the plastic crystal on it.... that would be the icing on the cake.

I'd be first in line (Well, maybe Mike would already be camped out there) if they came out with a matte, painted, maxi-dial sub.

I don't think it's going to happen... Too many collectors would be outraged, and I don't think it is Rolex policy to go back at all.

The closest we are going to see is the maxi in W/G surrounds like the Sub LV and the new GMT has. And that just doesn't do it for me..

They don't do anything for me either. But if they did come back out with the matte dial version, I might not be first in line.... but I'd be in line. There's nothing sweeter looking than a nice all original 5513.... Classic man!! Classic! You can wear it with a tux or blue jeans, and she looks just awsome. Possibly IMO... the all time cleanest most elegant tool watch Rolex ever put out.
