Store recommendations to purchase SS Daytona in NYC/CT?

Preferably AD but willing to check out other trustworthy non-ADs too.

Anyone have recommendations they can send over? Would like a place I can visit in person and hopefully try one on since I've only seen in pictures (so prefer to go to store vs. online/phone).

Thanks!

thanks! its a bit difficult to navigate that page to figure out where everyone is located/if they are actually a store vs. an individual. did find 1 person and contacted them to see what they had available though!

will still like to hear if anyone has a favorite AD/non-AD for rolex purchases in the area though.

I would head into the city to try on watches, Rolex Boutique, Wempe, etc...

Then buy here on TRF from a trusted seller

hah :)

now i'm a little bummed since I saw the prices are going up tomorrow, and I'm not going to be able to purchase it today since I haven't even had a chance to see it in person yet. I have a very small wrist, so need to see how it looks before purchasing anything.

don't buy in NYC, you won't get any discounts and the salespeople will most likely pull some sort of "limited supply" or "wait-list" BS for the Daytona.

I can't speak for CT but I am sure anywhere but Manhattan would be better to purchase the watch (unless you don't care how much it costs)

hrm interesting. i actually thought it would be opposite in that there is so much competition that I could at least squeeze a few $$ discount, especially if I was willing to pay cash.

I actually expected CT to be worse because there probably arent as many shops, and the demand is probably high (only rich areas seem to have an AD)

The ADs in NYC (Manhattan) rarely have a SS Daytona in stock. I doubt you will even find one to try on. You can always try on the White Gold model. But the SS Daytona sells out immediately in NYC. A while back I saw a USED SS Daytona at Tourneau for $15,900. No discounts on that model ever in NYC unless you are one of their valued customers who has bought several watches.

thanks thats helpful. If thats the case, i'll just see if something closer to me in CT has one in stock I can try on, and if I cant get a good price for that, i'll turn to TRF sellers.

In NYC it's very hard to find a SS Daytona. It took me awhile to find a new SS SubC to try on at an AD.

That really was very interesting for me to find out. I was looking around and was surprised to hear that the SS Daytona's were VERY difficult to come by in Manhattan. The AD's with whom I spoke said that all SS models are swept up immediately and they never have any in stock.

(I wonder why that is?)

All SS models? Everytime I go to NYC there seems to be plenty of Subs, GMTs, etc. The Rolex boutiques are loaded with SS models as well.

My experience here in the Midwest USA is that it really does come down to having a relationship with an AD. After buying a Milgauss GV and checking out new models infrequently after that, I inquired about getting a Daytona. A few months later, they received one and offered it to me. Glad I purchased it before the prices went up.

Given vicinity and since you were already willing to travel to NYC, if you have the means, you may want to check out some of the NJ AD; I have heard some good things from forum members pertaining to some of the AD in NJ and their willingness to do a little discounting and ship out of state to avoid sales tax.

I am not sure which AD's in NJ do this though; hopefully someone will chime in.

I do know that last weekend there were SS Daytona's at the new Wempe Boutique that opened in the Rolex building, but there is no telling if they are still there now.

pretty lame IMO. If they have it in stock, they should say so; there is nothing wrong or against policy to state there is a watch in stock.

Asking if you had "bought" from them before is also, IMO, not a necessary nor appropriate question to ask. If you have the money and want to buy the watch, what should it matter if you had bought from them before???

This is why I only use DAVIDSW

The explanation I was given, which made sense to me, is that the AD receives availability calls quite frequently and many times the buyer's intentions are simply to flip the watch. Since they don't receive many SS Daytona's throughout the year, they prefer to sell them to established customers that plan to actually wear them. Right or wrong, can't blame them for wishing to satisfy an existing customer. I do agree, however, that if the SS Daytona is the only Rolex you desire, that approach can offend the first time buyer and keep the AD from gaining a new long-term customer.

x2

The Black Subs, GMTs, Milgausses, Exp 2's are pretty readily available. The green Subs, Milgauss GVs, and Daytonas don't make it to the showcase because the ADs can simply call one of their long-time clients and sell it right away or give it to a tourist cash buyer at full MSRP. At least this has been my experience.

Wilson & Son in Mt. Kisco is great and is near the NY/CT line.

Also in Clifton NJ Morre Lyon is a particularly friendly environment with good selection.

Always remember to ask for what you seek no matter what AD you are ever at, they all keep dozens of other Rolexes in the safe.

Ended going to AD near me and they happened to have 1 of each color in stock. Got it for the price before the price change + no tax since we shipped it out of state.

I was going to think about it more but ended up getting it on the spot since I doubt I could have found it cheaper online or otherwise. Can't wait until it shows up later this week!!
