Accuracy

Does anyone know if Rolex watches take a bit if time to break in and regulate on your wrist? My new DSSD is running 4 seconds slow a day. I rather see it run 2-4 sec fast a day.

That's within specs but you can send it to RSC to regulate it. ADs don't have the necessary tools to test water resistance to its rated depth.

Rolex doesn't claim any break-in period, but it's been my experience that they will run a littler faster after a couple of months..

It will not likely pick up 4 seconds though.. Make sure that you are doing a proper check for accuracy though, and using an accurate time-source..

As well as what the others have said, make sure the power reserve is optimal and you could try different resting positions. Some believe leaving it dial up when you take it off can make it run faster though I haven't noticed it myself.

Just take it to a RSC, say it's a little slow but you'd rather have it a little fast instead of slow. If it's still under warranty, it'll be done for free.

Rolex says leaving it rest face up will help it gain time. Try leaving it face up at night every night for a week and see if it has picked up any time.

Some people actually believe that a $12,050 SS diver should keep better than mediocre time. I happen to be one of them. -4 a day is not spectacular, when far cheaper watches can easily do better. -4 a day is not particularly good for a new Rolex, -4 a day isn't just 4 seconds, it's your watch losing 2 minutes in one month. It's ok, but not something I'd be that happy about.

I don't think somebody not being thrilled with losing 4 a day on their brand new Deepsea needs to "get real". Timekeeping is sort of an important thing for a watch to do, right?

Don't make no difference what any watch costs its only as good as what its been regulated too.And his watch is now showing 99.996% accuracy would hardly call that mediocre timekeeping, and to loose 4 seconds out of 86400 in a day is within spec.Myself would wait a month or so before sending it for such a small deviation as only the RSC can pressure check the DSSD and watch could take 4-6 weeks to return.

I'm a freak for accuracy it's an addiction... so when my brand new Explorer ran +7sec per day (12hrs at work) when worn on my wrist and NO I'm not jogging or building a house with it on. I brought it in to RSC Toronto and after half an hour they told me the watch was within spec so they won't make any adjustments.

Anyhow, it magically now +3.72sec per day (12hrs at work) on wrist and 0 gain at night with crown up.

When I first got my Exp2 it was pretty fast, like 15 seconds a day, after a couple of months it settled on +6 approx a day, and I'm happy with that.

How do you measure .72 of a second.

I'm using that exel sheet linked above. So according to my inputs and against time.gov it's calculating +3.72sec per day.

Slacker! 3.72? I want at least 3 more decimal places.

I agree. My DSSD is 8-10 sec off a day last time I checked. That was about a year ago. I must be too busy enjoying life to create a spreadsheet to track my watches accuracy J/K. I just can't imagine worrying as much as some about my watch losing or gaining a few secs a day. If its within cosc I wouldn't mess with the DSSD. To much hassle to have it opened IMHO.
