Boxes and Books???

Just curious, when you're selling a pre-owned Rolex with NO books / tags / boxes / etc, how much of a discount vs. one with all the above mentioned?

I have an chance to pick up a P serial GMT Coke for a good deal. I have no interest in owning it, so I want to flip it; however, the guy doesn't have any of the boxes or whatnot, so.....just trying to figure out if there is any profit in it.

What say ye TRF'ers??

maybe 100 bucks, the most important thing to have is the warranty card or certificate which ever yours was made with

Even if it's out of warranty? He bought it in 2001.

Is there profit in this watch for you?

Depends on whether he's prepared to sell it to you under market value so that you can sell it immediately for market value.

Yeah, I can pick it up for a very good price and should be able to flip it quickly. Well, what would you all say market value for a p serial in very nice condition be? I'm guessing 5k if I want to hold it and say 4250 if I want it gone quick??

The only thing that scares me is the lack of books / hang tags / boxes / papers etc. on it

The vast majority of used Rolex watchs are sold without those things because most people don't keep them..

They have, however, become favorites of the Internet market..

What you'd get for it depends on the market you'll try to sell into. Watch forums often fetch lower prices unless the seller has great long term history there and watch is well vetted.

eBay gets you a higher price but the fees are murder - especially if you accept PayPal for payment. And most of the sellers are offering complete sets with papers.

Local selling is fraught with problems so won't even go there.

If you can get it for $3000 or less, you could get it serviced and offer a 2 year warranty - that would help you move it despite the missing collateral.

X2 On that one Larry the Rolex so called papers its just a warranty stating its now warranted for two years like say with a TV.After the warranty well its a just a bit of paper, and guess what these bits of paper/card or boxes don't always prove authenticity of any product.Fact boxes bits of plastic are the easiest to fake, so never rely on the packaging stuff alone. In my time being around Rolex watches have seen quite a few fake papers that would fool most.

My opinion on a "P" serial number GMT II in good condition with no extras would be around $4300 retail. A complete set, around $4800.

Sounds to me like you don't have your finger on the pulse of the market and the value of the watch (otherwise you wouldn't be asking these questions). If I were you...I wouldn't try to flip the watch.
