Should I swap?
I was at my AD this weekend picking up 2 new watches that he had got in for me (pictures to follow later!) when he brought out a WG Daytona Black Face.
I currently have a SS Daytona Black Face which he supplied me new about 5 months ago. I put both of them side by side & the WG looked so much better in my opinion, the red on the sub dials looks great. The problem is, to get the WG I'm going to have to get rid of my SS. My questions are - Would you swap SS for WG? Is the price difference really worth it? How easily will the WG pick up scratches & marks compared to SS? Thanks for any advice given Dan |

Can't address your questions as I don't own a Daytona. I do understand your situation though. The WG models have the better face designs.
With the difficulty in getting a SS version, I have resigned myself to the fact that if I opt for a Daytona it will be in WG. The one with the meteorite face is my current PC screen saver. Beautiful watch. |

There will always be something just a little bit better just around the corner.

I would without a shadow of doubt, here are some photos, it does pick up scratches on the polished centre links, but I found the same to be true with a SS daytona. The weight is brilliant, it feels solid and worth every £. Have you also seen the silver dial? Or prehaps the metoriate dial?

Thanks for the pictures Simon
My father has the meteorite Daytona so I didn't want to get the same as him. It's the combination of the black & red that makes this one stand out for me Dan |

Gold is overpriced, and has nothing to do with accuracy of the watch.

Dan, honestly I would go for it the grail watch is a personal thing and varies from one to another. I love all my WG daytonas. I have never looked back, the weight, comfort is unbelivable comapared to the SS. Besides once you start thinking about it you will want it, I could pick up 3 SS daytonas for the price of one of my WG daytonas.
But I woudl still do it, every one I know who has actually held the WG daytona and actually played with it in their hand. Loves it and woudl buy it, there are obviously factors such as cost. But if you can afford it go for it. I think half the people who say they would rather have a SS daytona, have never actulaly a seen one in life. Some can not afford them. Then you have alll the people who buy the SS daytona as it is poular. I know enough friends who have the SS daytona and would in a split second trade up if they could afford to. This is not meant to cause anyone offence, but merely my opinion. I bet half those would not say no to one if offered one for free or at the price of a SS version. |

Well, I for my part don't buy WG watches since they simple LOOK too much like steel to me. Of course you have the increased weight (which is kinda nice, IMHO!), but I would feel kind of "cheaten" if I wore a WG watch. I would simply not think of it as being gold.
Besides that, the SS Daytona is still the rarest current Rolex, and I would NEVER part with mine for ANY watch.
