Rolex and Bugsprays

Here's one for ya. Any of you guys wear a Rolex while hiking or something and have used sprays with DEET in it? I have heard it can eat rubber pretty good. I was wondering if you wear it and sweat, wether enough of it can get on the watch to attack the seals.

Any thoughts?

904L steel was made for use in the chemical industry, my guess the steal is right at home with deet. The crown should be screwed down so I don't see deet getting into the rubber inside of the watch.

I would think that if deet attacked rubber and plastics enough to harm your Rolex,

There would be a lot of swim suit tops unsnapping, flip-flops flopping, and Ray-Bans hitting the dirt..


but.......it's just an opinion...

I can tell you that DEET products will eat through fingernail polish and paint, it will also cause most rubber/ latex things to get sticky or eat through the item enough to leave permanent marks.

I have some medical grade Clogs that are rubber and DEET actually etched a pattern on the shoes...and for Halloween I had on a t - shirt with a decal on the front and it made the decal colors rub off on my arm....

I would use caution with spraying DEET directly on your clothing or jewelry in general. I would think stainless steel is fine...but other materials...who knows...I know I take off shoes and jewelry befor I use it.

Unless you coat your Rolex down with it I cant imagine it having a problem.

I am probably going to get some disease like cancer fro sure...but I live 60 miles SOUTHWEST of New Orleans.....

SOOOO...you learn to live with OFF.....and you are happy to wear it (or get West Nile Virus), but I have noticed it can be highly corrosive on certain items....

I just use it with caution...spray myself down and let it dry, then put my shoes back on. The one pair of clogs got so sticky I had to wash them in my sink and then they still have spray marks on them....it took about 15 minutes.

It's a no-brainer!

Just keep this DEET well away from your Rolex!
