Just received my first Tudor, some basic Rolex-owning questions!

Hi guys, I just received my Tudor in the mail today. I did use common sense, the seller had good feedback from selling a few old omega seamasters and some coach/burberry/similar-level-of-luxury items. He showed clear pictures of the face, one of the movement, and of the caseback (both sides).

Here's the link, I can open the caseback and take more detailed pictures of the movement or any other part of the watch.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/261067421935...84.m1439.l2649

1. can anybody help me authenticate this?
2. There was no O-ring on caseback or on the watch.. Is there someway to make this somewhat waterproof so i can at least wash it when the band starts to smell sour or just not take it off when washing my hands?
3. since the band is aftermarket, how do i know what reference number band and end links i should get? it's 19mm across the lugs.

thanks so much!

Jon, I see that this is your first post; so welcome to TRF! This is a great place!

And congrats on your Tudor purchase.

1. I can not authenticate the watch for you, but the serial number indicates production year 1964.
2. You MUST absolutely have an O-ring. It is essential for waterproofness! The caseback (if following Rolex recommendations) should be tightened using 5 Nm of torque. You should also have the crystal and crown tube/crown gaskets checked/replaced. Until then: No water!!!
3. A folded Tudor/Rolex 7835 with 357 end links should do the trick; or a later 78350 (solid) and 557 end links. But such a combination will most likely cost more than what you paid for the watch...

Enjoy!

And: Post some pictures!

Best,

A

thank you! I didn't see an introduction section in there forum index..
What database do you use for serial numbers and corresponding years?
How much should I expect to pay Rolex for a servicing/overhaul job? what about a regular watchmaker?
Lastly, there are a few 7835 bands on Ebay, its there any way to tell if they are genuine Rolex parts?

There is no real database for Tudor watches, only some educated guessing. You can find some of this research in our Reference Library.

Any good watchmaker can service your Tudor and parts for the ETA based movement is plentiful. Rolex charges about 400 bucks, an independent would be a bit less.

There is no way to tell without knowing what you are looking at to begin with when purchasing over the Internet. A high percentage of such parts are not genuine..

The movement looks newer, or rebuilt, and the plate is different material than other's I've seen in original condition from that era.

So hard to say as others pointed out. Best thing to do - get thee to a Swiss watch specialist - a certified watchmaker.
