Rolex Submariner is a Non Date watch...

I think I argued in the past that the SubDate is THE Rolex Submariner.

I humbly stand corrected. LOOK AT THESE PAGES OF Submariners. NOT A ONE THAT IS with a DATE.

My apologies....

Pages and pages to scroll...One pic for good measure.

Either a Submariner No Date, or Submariner Date, I like them both! Though I prefer a Submariner Date, because of that nice 2.5x pearly white datewheel! Or a 1680 with a over-magnified date! But then again, a heavily patina'ed dial with a Black/Grey NATO. I love them all! Those Submariners

You have been a member of this fine forum for almost a year, and just now you bothered to read the history of the Submariner?

Love the no date (the original sub), but with my short term memory loss I need the date

Am I the only one it bugs when all the Sub freaks call the Sub no date.
In the Rolex world there is the Submainer and the submariner Date.

Think the point is that we often say "Submariner" for the (1)16610 and "No Date Sub" for the (1)14060, when technically we should be referring to the "Submariner" ((1)14060) and the "Submariner Date" ((1)16610))

Dang it people, now I realized that I've got to get a 114060.......one of the problems with the Sub was that it's only an occasional wearer for me and being lazy, I'd rather not have to set the date when it gets wrist time (I'd rather let a movement rest than use a winder). The 114060 solves that issue and more; without the cyclops it is more understated and might even be written off as a non-Rolex piece with a glance by an uninformed or casual observer. The latter appeals to me about as much as the former. Lastly, if one were to actually do some diving with a Sub, I'd think it would be more practical to not have the cyclops. That extra 2mm of clearance may provide an ever so slightly lower chance of bumping it on something.

I now understand. I just "grew up" with a Submariner Date so it was always THE Submariner.

That was an excellent thread of pictures and ads, I think I will print some of those out and frame them! Interestingly on some of the later ads they were calling the Submariner Date, a Submariner. I like the old ads where they bothered to advertise these watches. Now they only advertise the gold ones. I guess back then they were the fancier watches of their time. No?
