Oris your thoughts

Can anyone give me some insight into the Oris brand ? Looking to get another watch not another Rolex just everyday wear type of watch and the Oris and Panerai have caught my eye but have little insight into the watch and where they are made? If they keep good time and hold their re-sell value? Also looking at the Breitling Avenger ..need to have the date prefer cyclops as my eyes aren't what they used to be lol..thanks for any insight..

Nice watches - I have a soft spot for Oris. They are generally considered to be good value for money. The divers' watches are popular and seem to resell quite easily - I had a couple of them. There are plenty of ADs around (at least in Aus and the UK) and discounts are fairly easy to obtain. Movements are mostly ETA and Sellita -based, therefore servicing and repairs will not be difficult to arrange

Personally, I would take Oris or Fortis over Breitling. Panerai are great watches, but at a much higher price point

Personally I think if you want a no nonsense everyday type of watch you should perhaps look at Sinn. They are slightly better engineered and finished IMHO. Oris resale is generally quite poor therefore when you buy one you should look to keep it.

I owned an Oris TT1 WorldTimer that was very nice quality, I just prefer a rotating bezel. They can be had for quite a discount when bought new and the resale value reflects that.

If you find one you like, go for it.

Yes, Sinn (who are German) and Bell & Ross (if you like mostly square-shaped watches!) are the same level as Oris and Fortis

Sinn's U1 is a nice dive watch, as is the Fortis Marinemaster. Oris divers are mostly quite large, but wear well (at least on me) due to the shape of the case

I've owned two Oris watches and they were absolutely fantastic. The first one was a 1st generation BC3 pilot watch which had a rarer white dial with stick markers. I've only ever seen two others for sale with that dial in the last 10+ yrs. Really wish I would've kept it! The other was a TT1 day date.

They both had textured/guilloche (sp?) dials that were a pleasure to look at. My TT1 date had one of the most beautiful blue dials I've seen. Don't pay MSRP, they can be had for good discounts. Resale value won't be great.

Sinn makes a great watch too. I had a Sinn chrono as well.

yeah for daily wear guess i shouldn't be looking at resale value ..so far seen the F1 like that and like the Sinatra , have to check fortis out next , thanks for the information if you have any pics of the fortis or oris post em thanks again.

I had an Oris Williams F1 team Chrono for a while and really liked it. Unique features like rotating lugs to make it's 45mm size fit nicely. Overall fit and finish is good.

Only downside to many Oris watches are proprietary lugs, which mean no aftermarket straps and resale value is rather low.

I think they make some great looking watches, but have noticed issues with resale prices as well.

This Oris worked for me in quite a few Reefs in the South Pacific Region. A good workhorse and being titanium, didn't weigh me down.

I owned the Formula One - saw it in an AD, looked awesome, got 25% off - and bought it.
Loved it on the rubber stap - however, felt a little cheap compared to other swiss watches, and was horrible keeping time. Maybe even more then a minute fast per day.
Won't be buying another.

For the same price - I much, much prefer TAG

I used to work in a store for a few months that was an Oris AD (among other brands - Omega, TAG Heuer, Breitling etc.), and I found them to be a bit 'tinny' and light, when handling them daily. Not as substantial as they look, IMHO.

Had the TT1 diver, good watch, good quality. Not the best finishing or QC but I sold it for 80% of what I paid for it a year later so I can't complain. Despite what anyone says about titanium being the strongest metal in the world blah blah blah it's actually very soft and scratches easily much more easily than 906L IMHO, I won't buy another titanium watch for that reason. And the color of TT is gray which is also off putting to me.

bought a oris big crown for my bro early this year...cant beat the price they 're offering for a daily watch...i love the pro diver chrono..but its just too big for me..resale value wise...the pam would obviously better...if you want a daily beater which dont burn a hole in your pocket..oris is a GO...

Wow those are some nice shots need to get my camera out here is a quick pick of the one I picked for its Stealthy qualities never thought i would like the rubber band but I do now how to size it just a little bit to snug it up..is it hard to do?

Yes love this watch it’s black sleek and doesn’t weight my wrist down no complaints love the size think its like 40mm not 45mm which is a bit large for my wrist guess thats why i love the Rolex …and now the Oris think I need two more..

i owned 2 tt1's in the past. blue and black. great price points but the bezel lume at 12 fell off on one of them. i'd also recommend getting it regulated if accuracy is important. the tt1 also has an appealing distinctive look which is hard to achieve in today's watch world. they seem to have something for everyone at the moment.

I picked this up a few months ago. Love it. Great fit and finish, buttery smooth movement, feels great on the wrist and keeps excellent time. I managed a 35% discount by stalking it for a year.

I have owned, and currently do own, multiple Oris watches. They make very good dive models but tI also appreciate the fact they they are also into both aviation, and racing, style watches to broaden the appeal

They're obviously on the larger size but with 7" wrists, they pose no issues for me.

I have three Oris watches, an F1 and two first generation BC3's. I first became aware of Oris from someone in the jewelry and watch repair business in NYC who thought they were good watches. I wear a mid size black dial BC3 as a daily work watch. The other BC3 is a rare white dial with a dark blue rubber strap. Try to find the first generation BC3, is a great watch.
