New LV...My 1st Rolex experience.....
Hi all,
I began my quest for a new Rolex with many trips to some local AD's here in Vancouver BC. After getting some advice here (Thanks KansaiVet and others) I realized that no amount of negotiations was going to get the Local AD's to bring down their prices enough to reflect our now rather strong Canadian Dollar. After crunching some numbers I finalized a purchase over the phone with an AD in Portland OR on Halloween. Man, the weekend could not come fast enough! When Friday evening arrived, my wife thought we should make a mini holiday weekend out of the trip so we hopped in the car and got a head start on the 6 hour drive south to Portland. The experience with the AD was wonderful. They answered all of our questions, took their time to ensure a proper fit, showed me all of the features of the watch, and were very friendly and aproachable, not at all stuffy like some AD's I had dealt with here. I think my favorite moment came while my Wife was being shown a TT Diamond DJ, and with $10,000 on her wrist, she blurted out to the Saleswoman " Do you know where the nearest Wal-Mart is?". I burst out laughing, but the AD, without blinking, began to rattle off detailed directions. This will loooooong top the list of inside jokes between the 2 of us, and will make the trip that little bit more memorable. I love the watch. I was concerened that the face may be a little too big, as I have never been a big watch kind of guy, but the more I wear it, the more perfect it feels. Overall, the only downside to the whole experience is that you were all correct, I am already trying to find a way to fund my next Rolex. It truely is impossible to stop at one..... Man, what a great experience. |

Awesome choice and cool story! Sounds like your wife was very supportive of the purchase. To me, it isn't necessary, but it sure is nice!
Wear it in good health. It looks great on you!

Mandrick,
Congratulations and welcome to the World of Rolex... the bug is bad, but beautiful. Great pics and I'm CERTAIN you will enjoy it. The best thing so far is the AD experience and it's a fantastic way to start ownership of your Rolex. Now... how's about a Moosehead eh? |

Great shots of a great watch, congratulations.
Just goes to show, that if our Canadian ADs want to act like prigs in the face of an increasingly strong US dollar, then be prepared to see sales go south. Too bad you had to drive south to make your deal, but glad it turned out so nicely. Great macro shots, nice, rich detail! BTW, Rolex makes their watches 40 mm in diameter, and in the current trend of oversize (see Anonimo, Panerai and Bell & Ross instrument watches, as well as U Boat Flightdeck, etc) watches, teh Rolex sport models are positively conservatively-sized. And just right in my mind. Best, Chris |
